According to Anthony Slater of ESPN, Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors have mutual interest in getting an extension done in August.
Curry will make $62.6 million next season in the final year of his contract. The future Hall of Famer is eligible for a two-year, $136.7 million extension.
The Warriors missed the playoffs last season. They haven’t advanced past the second round of the playoffs since 2022.
To make matters worse, Golden State didn’t get LeBron James or Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer. James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers despite Curry and Draymond Green heavily recruiting him to Golden State, while the Milwaukee Bucks traded Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat.
“That’s why you don’t envision anything until it happens,” Curry said at Moses Moody’s youth camp about the Warriors not getting James, via The Athletic. “There’s a lot of moving parts.”
The Warriors haven’t added any new players via free agency or trade this summer. They re-signed Green and signed Kristaps Porziņģis to a two-year extension.
Jimmy Butler is expected to miss most of next season recovering from his ACL tear, so the Warriors won’t be a championship contender.
Curry appeared in 43 games last season. He averaged 26.6 points and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 46.8% from the field, 39.3% from beyond the arc and 92.3% from the free-throw line.
A four-time NBA champion, Curry is expected to retire with the Warriors. The two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP enters next season with career averages of 24.8 points and 6.3 assists per game in the regular season and 26.8 points and 6.1 assists per game in the playoffs.
Curry turns 39 on March 14, 2027. He’s been in the NBA since 2009. The 12-time All-Star and two-time scoring champion has made the most 3-pointers in NBA history.
