STORRS, Conn. — Five-star point guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. committed to UConn on Thursday, a source told Joe Tipton of Rivals. The 6-foot-3 senior at Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif., took an official visit to Storrs over Labor Day weekend.
The Rivals Industry Ranking, which averages the Rivals, ESPN, and 247Sports rankings, has Bowman as the No. 11 prospect in the 2027 class. He is the No. 5 point guard in the same ranking. His father is NaVorro Bowman Sr., a four-time first-team All-Pro linebacker with the San Francisco 49ers.
Before Thursday, Bowman had official visits scheduled with the Illinois Fighting Illini on Sept. 10, the Texas Longhorns on Sept. 19, and the Arizona Wildcats on Sept. 25, League Ready’s Sam Kayser reported in August. The North Carolina Tar Heels offered him July 23.
San Francisco took Bowman Sr. in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He played 99 regular-season games for the 49ers and the Oakland Raiders, made three Pro Bowls, and finished with 14 sacks. ACL and MCL injuries kept him out of the 2014 season.
Bowman Sr. coached linebackers for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024 and 2025. At the team’s end-of-season news conference on Jan. 15, Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz announced that Bowman Sr. was stepping away from the job, according to Bleacher Report.
“His son is an elite hooper, and he wants to be a dad, and help guide him through the process of college and selecting college,” Hortiz said.
“As a father, excited for Bow,” Hortiz continued. “As a general manager and a teammate of Bow’s here, I’m disappointed. I love him, and he did a great job, but I understand his thought process. So, we’ll miss him.”
NaVorro Bowman Jr. Won Gold With USA Basketball In Istanbul
Bowman averaged 11.9 points and 3.6 assists for the U.S. team that won the FIBA U17 World Cup in July, according to Tipton. The Americans finished unbeaten in Istanbul and beat Serbia 107-81 in the final on July 5.
In the quarterfinals against Puerto Rico, Bowman hit a 3-pointer with 1:10 left that broke the tournament’s single-game scoring record of 146 points, FIBA reported. The U.S. won that game 149-82.
During the Nike EYBL season with Team Why Not, Bowman averaged 20.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.6 steals. 247Sports had him shooting 42% from the field on 17 attempts per game and 33% from 3-point range on at least 6 attempts per game.
In April, Cal-Hi Sports named Bowman its 2026 State Junior Player of the Year. That season, Notre Dame beat defending champion JSerra Catholic 74-55 in late December to win the National Division at the Torrey Pines Holiday Classic. Bowman led Notre Dame with 15 points in the final, recorded a triple-double, and was named tournament MVP, the Times of San Diego reported. He said afterward that the title was a big accomplishment for a team that came into the season as the underdog.
“This game I had a triple-double with 12 assists,” Bowman said. “I feel like them finishing and hitting shots was a big part on why I got it.”
Dan Hurley And UConn Hosted NaVorro Bowman Jr. Over Labor Day Weekend
UConn coach Dan Hurley enters his ninth season with the Huskies this fall. UConn went 34-6 last season and reached the national championship game, where the Michigan Wolverines won 69-63 on April 6 in Indianapolis. Hurley won national titles in 2023 and 2024.
Bowman’s father joined him on the visit to Storrs, College Sports Network reported. On Tuesday, Hurley appeared at the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Hartford’s Help & Hope Breakfast at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. He did not mention Bowman by name in comments to reporters afterward. Hurley said UConn has to balance high school recruiting against what the transfer portal inventory and its own roster retention could look like under the new 5-for-5 rule, the Hartford Courant reported.
“You have a lot of players come take visits with their family, so obviously you really like their talent and their athletic ability and athletic traits,” Hurley said.
“But I think the bigger thing that both parties have to walk away from after official visits is, do you fit each other?” Hurley added. “I think that’s what’s probably the important part of visits for us: do we have shared values? Does the program fit the players and families?”
UConn opens the 2026-27 regular season Nov. 2. Four days later, the Huskies face Michigan in a title-game rematch at TD Garden in Boston as part of the TNT Sports Hall of Fame Series. UConn’s nonconference schedule also includes Duke, Illinois, and Arizona.
