AUSTIN, Texas — Glen Powell will be the guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay for the second time Saturday. The show will broadcast from Austin before the No. 4 Texas Longhorns host the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
At 11:07 a.m. CT Thursday, the College GameDay account on X posted a video of Powell announcing the pick. Powell, an Austin native, is a University of Texas student who is wrapping up his undergraduate degree and expects to graduate this spring, The Dallas Morning News reported.
In the video, Powell said he would be coming to viewers Saturday from his hometown, where his Longhorns face the Buckeyes. He described the game as “two powerhouse programs clashing in the greatest city on the planet.”
GameDay will be filmed live on the lawn of the LBJ Presidential Library. The show airs from 8 to 11 a.m. CT on ESPN and ESPNU. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC. In Dallas-Fort Worth, the game airs on WFAA (Ch. 8).
Glen Powell Went 7-5 In His First Turn As Guest Picker
Powell first made picks on the show on Sept. 10, 2022, when GameDay came to Austin before Texas played No. 1 Alabama in Week 2. He went 7-5 that morning. Alabama won the game 20-19.
Powell appeared in the 2022 film “Top Gun: Maverick.” He co-created the Hulu series “Chad Powers” and stars in it as a college quarterback. All six episodes of the second season were released Sept. 3.
Last season, Powell was in Columbus, Ohio, for the Aug. 30 opener between Texas and Ohio State at Ohio Stadium, On3 reported. Ohio State won 14-7. On that morning’s GameDay, Lee Corso put on the Brutus Buckeye head for his final headgear pick. The game averaged 16.6 million viewers, according to On3.
Texas Longhorns Are 5-5 With College GameDay In Austin
Saturday will be GameDay’s 11th visit to Austin. The Longhorns are 5-5 in the previous 10, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Ohio State’s last trip to Austin came on Sept. 9, 2006. GameDay was on campus that day too. The No. 2 Buckeyes beat the No. 1 Longhorns 24-7. Texas last won with the show in Austin in 2009, when it beat Texas Tech 34-24. Since then, the Longhorns have lost to LSU in 2019, Alabama in 2022, TCU in 2022, and Georgia in 2024 with GameDay in town.
Ohio State leads the all-time series 3-2 and has won the past two meetings. Before last season’s 14-7 game in Columbus, the Buckeyes beat the Longhorns 28-14 in the Cotton Bowl, a College Football Playoff semifinal, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Jan. 10, 2025.
On Tuesday, Texas moved up one spot to No. 4 in the AP Top 25. Ohio State stayed at No. 1 with 46 of 69 first-place votes. In Week 1, Ohio State beat Ball State 56-3, and Texas beat Texas State 59-7.
The Longhorns are 21-1 in their last 22 games at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Texas opens SEC play Sept. 26 at Tennessee.
