‘A New Game’: Dak Prescott Says Dallas Cowboys Have A Plan For Arizona Cardinals’ Blitz

FRISCO, Texas — Dak Prescott said Thursday that the Arizona Cardinals have had the Dallas Cowboys’ number in recent years, and that Dallas has a plan for the blitz Arizona used in a 27-17 win at AT&T Stadium last November.

Prescott was sacked 5 times in that “Monday Night Football” loss on Nov. 3, 2025. Arizona forced 3 turnovers, and Dallas went 0-for-3 on fourth down. The Cardinals have won the last four meetings, dating to 2020.

Defensive coordinator Nick Rallis called Arizona’s defense in that game and still does. First-year Cardinals coach Mike LaFleur retained Rallis in February after Arizona fired Jonathan Gannon, who is now the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay held Dallas to 13 points in a 23-13 win on Oct. 18.

Prescott credited the way Arizona’s defense has come in and executed against Dallas.

“We’ve got to win, right? Understanding you just said what happened last year. It was an ugly, ugly game, ugly on our part. And then, yeah, you can go to some years before then where they’ve been at Arizona,” Prescott said.

“Yeah, they’ve had our number these last couple of years. And credit to their defense, credit to the way that those guys come in and play and execute, but it’s a new year. Everything’s different, so we’ve just got to make sure we go out and take care of business,” Prescott continued.

Dak Prescott Expects The Cardinals’ Blitz Again

New personnel and new coaching on both sides make Sunday a new game, according to Prescott, and he is not putting much stock in what happened in past seasons.

“Every game has its own matchups, its own words, and everything in it, and that goes the same for each and every year. So, yeah, they’ve had our number the last few years, but there’s new personnel, there’s new coaching, there’s no different from our side, our defense, things we’re doing. So it’s a new game,” Prescott explained.

“I’m not really putting a lot into the past years. They got after us last year in the sense of the blitz. I understand that the D.C. is going to do that again. That would be important for us to make sure that we said, right, we’ve got a plan and we’re protecting that,” Prescott added. “But other than that, it’s an execution game. And that’s what makes this league great is you can’t win anything on paper. You’ve got to go out there and you’ve got to do it.”

Prescott said he feels great about Arizona’s coverage looks after a week of film study, and that he has “made the plans, got the plan, made the adjustments, studied it up, prepared for it.”

Prescott On Budda Baker

Budda Baker is in his 10th season with Arizona, which drafted him in the second round in 2017. In the Cardinals’ 38-10 win at AT&T Stadium in October 2020, Baker forced a fumble and intercepted a pass, Sports360AZ reported.

Dallas has to know where Baker is on every snap, according to Prescott, whether the play is a run or a pass.

“He’s talented. We need to make sure that we know where he is, depending on whether it’s run, if it’s pass, if we have him accounted for in protection. If not, are we throwing hots off of him?” Prescott said. “But he’s a guy that you should know where he is, especially for a quarterback. They allow him to play truly like free safety sometimes. He’s very experienced and can be anywhere on the field.”

“So he’s a guy who’s going to read my eyes and try to read our concepts. And so it’s about us jumping out of our shoes, being where we need to be, and me being clean with my eyes,” Prescott detailed.

Arizona (2-5) lost 30-16 to the Denver Broncos on Sunday and is 0-3 at home. Dallas (3-4) hosts the Cardinals on Sunday at AT&T Stadium, with kickoff set for noon CT on FOX.
