OXNARD, Calif. — Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker said Wednesday that the staff is not putting a cap on what Von Miller can be in 2026.
Miller signed a one-year deal worth $5.5 million on Tuesday. Parker joined the Denver Broncos’ staff as defensive backs coach in 2021, Miller’s final season with the franchise that drafted him second overall in 2011.
Christian Parker on Von Miller’s Fit in the Cowboys’ Edge Room
Parker said the “no-fly zone” label in Denver predated his arrival there.
“Von was kind of an honorary member of no-fly zone. That predated me. So he was always around the DBs and everything. Ultimate professional, phenomenal teammate, and obviously he can still get after the quarterback and play at a high level as an all-down player,” Parker said.
“So we’re not really putting a cap on what could be this year. We’re going to let that kind of handle itself,” Parker continued. “But we definitely feel good about that edge room and feel good about the addition.”
Miller has 138.5 career sacks, tied with DeMarcus Ware for ninth on the NFL’s official list, which dates to 1982. He has eight Pro Bowls and two Super Bowl rings, and he had 9 sacks for the Washington Commanders last season while playing 36.9% of the defensive snaps. Schottenheimer said Monday that Miller will not play 60 snaps a game in Dallas.
BT Jordan’s Role in the Von Miller Signing
Dallas hired BT Jordan as a pass rush specialist in February. Jordan founded Trench Performance and has trained Miller along with Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby. Owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Monday that Jordan had spent the past year pushing the Cowboys toward Miller.
Jordan has worked alongside Cowboys assistant Chidera Uzo-Diribe for years, and Schottenheimer said Monday the two teach the position the same way.
“I think his impact has been phenomenal. His contributions inside and outside, on the field and off, with individual players collectively with those guys,” Parker said. “I think having the rushers-one mentality, really speaking to that and being able to develop rushers individually on where they are and what their fastball needs to be and what the change-up needs to be. I think he’s been great.”
“And obviously there were multiple relationships with Von outside the building that kind of led to that happening,” Parker explained. “But he definitely had a factor in that.”
Rashan Gary and Donovan Ezeiruaku both worked out with Miller during the offseason. Ezeiruaku said Monday that Miller told him he wants to be his DeMarcus Ware.
Dallas allowed 34.0 sacks as a team in 2025 and gave up 511 points, the most in the NFL.
