Dallas Wings Release Behind-The-Scenes Video Of Azzi Fudd’s 3-Point Contest Preparation

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Dallas Wings posted a behind-the-scenes video Tuesday that follows Azzi Fudd through her preparation for the WNBA 3-Point Contest, the event the rookie guard won Friday night at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. The clip went up on the team’s YouTube channel, which has 16.1 thousand subscribers.

Fudd is the first rookie to win the contest since the WNBA introduced it in 2006. She was the fourth rookie to compete in it.

In the first round Friday, Fudd finished with 24 points, second behind Bridget Carleton of the Portland Fire, who put up 27. Rhyne Howard scored 20, Janelle Salaün scored 19, Marina Mabrey scored 18, and Natisha Hiedeman scored 17. All four were eliminated.

Fudd shot second in the final. She hit all five balls on her opening rack from the left corner and finished with 30 of a possible 40 points. Carleton followed with 19.

The 30-point round matched the total Sabrina Ionescu posted to win the 2025 contest.

Every participant collected $10,000 in prize money. Fudd left Chicago with $70,000.

“Coming back from injuries, there was a lot of chair shooting,” Fudd told reporters afterward.

Fudd tore the ACL and MCL in her right knee at a USA Basketball 3-on-3 event in 2019 and dealt with a string of lower-leg injuries through high school and college.

Through 26 games this season, Fudd is averaging 13.2 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. She is shooting 45.7% from the field, 38.7% from three-point range, and 78.9% at the free-throw line, and she is averaging 1.7 steals.

Dallas took her first overall in the draft on April 13. At UConn, she won the 2025 national championship and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2025 NCAA Tournament.

Azzi Fudd’s Rematch Challenge To Stephen Curry

Speaking at the podium after the contest, Fudd brought up a shooting competition she lost eight years ago.

“Steph, if you are listening, I’ve been asking for a rematch since high school,” Fudd said.

Fudd was 15 in 2018 when she became one of the first female campers invited to Stephen Curry‘s SC30 Select Camp. She won the camp’s three-point contest and then faced Curry, who beat her.

Her father, Tim Fudd, played at American University from 1991 to 1996 and later played professionally in Europe. Her mother, Katie Smrcka-Duffy, was the 1997 ACC Rookie of the Year at NC State, transferred to Georgetown, and was drafted by the Sacramento Monarchs in the fourth round in 2001.

Paige Bueckers And Jessica Shepard In Chicago

Dallas sent three players to All-Star Weekend. Paige Bueckers and Jessica Shepard started Saturday’s All-Star Game on opposite rosters, and Team Spoon beat Team Coop 129-122 at United Center.

Bueckers finished with 12 points and 7 assists in 25 minutes. Shepard went 3-of-3 from the field with 5 rebounds and 5 assists in 18 minutes. Attendance was 19,783, the largest crowd for a WNBA All-Star Game.

It was Bueckers’ second All-Star selection and Shepard’s first.

Shepard has averaged 14.9 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists in 27 games, all starts, while shooting 59.7% from the field. Bueckers has averaged 20.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in 25 games.

Dallas is 18-9 and fourth in the standings, 3.5 games behind the Minnesota Lynx. The Wings host the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT at College Park Center, airing on USA Network. Atlanta enters at 16-10.
