AUSTIN — Texas Longhorns offensive tackle Trevor Goosby has a bone bruise in his left knee, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Tuesday, and a timetable for his return remains unsettled.
Goosby was hurt during Monday’s practice in Austin. The injury was non-contact, and he underwent an MRI on Tuesday morning. ESPN said the diagnosis ruled out the worst-case scenarios tied to potential structural damage.
Hours earlier, the Associated Press released its preseason All-America team. Goosby was one of four Longhorns on the first team, more than any other program placed. Wide receiver Cam Coleman, edge rusher Colin Simmons, and linebacker Rasheem Biles were the others.
Goosby grew up in Melissa, north of McKinney in Collin County, and played at Melissa High School. He was a three-star recruit who committed to TCU before flipping to Texas.
ESPN rates him as the No. 1 offensive tackle prospect for the 2027 NFL draft, and he returned for his redshirt junior season rather than enter the 2026 draft. He has appeared in 30 career games with 15 starts, per Texas. He started all 13 games at left tackle in 2025 and made the All-SEC first team. He allowed 1 sack and 7 pressures on 807 snaps, according to ESPN Research.
Texas Offensive Line Options Without Trevor Goosby
Texas rebuilt the line around Goosby this offseason. Brandon Baker moved inside to guard after starting all 13 games at right tackle in 2025, and Melvin Siani took over on the right side after transferring from Wake Forest in the spring.
Siani started all 13 games at left tackle for Wake Forest last season and led that offensive line with 914 snaps without allowing a sack, per Texas. Pro Football Focus graded him the 12th-best qualified blocker in the ACC. He played 15 games with 10 starts across two seasons at Temple before the transfer.
In January, Siani entered the transfer portal with a do-not-contact tag and signed with Texas hours later.
“Honestly, I’ll be quite frank with everybody. I thought I was getting a pass protector when we recruited him,” Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said after Monday’s practice, per On Texas Football. “I’m getting a tough-ass run blocker who is a good pass protector. That’s encouraging for us because, clearly, we know how important the run game is going to be for us.”
Earlier in camp, Sarkisian said the linemen who were not practicing physically had become the ones who stood out, because so many of them were.
“I think our offensive line is playing a really physical brand of football right now, and I think that’s a byproduct of some experience with like Connor [Robertson], with Trevor [Goosby], with Brandon [Baker], guys who have been in the system,” Sarkisian explained, per Burnt Orange Nation. “I think Melvin Siani’s playing really physical, and he’s going for it.”
Arch Manning is in his fourth year at Texas and is 12-3 as a starter, per Texas. Last season he threw for 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. Texas finished 10-3 and missed the College Football Playoff.
Texas Longhorns Schedule Entering the 2026 Season
The opener against Texas State is Sept. 5 at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, with a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff on ESPN. A week later, Ohio State visits Austin at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC. ESPN’s College GameDay will broadcast from campus that morning from 8 to 11 a.m. CT.
Texas opened the preseason AP poll at No. 5. Ohio State is No. 1. The Buckeyes lead the all-time series 3-2 and won last season’s opener in Columbus, 14-7. Sept. 12 will be the third consecutive season the programs have met and Ohio State’s first trip to Austin since 2006.
A timetable for Goosby’s return should emerge in the coming days, per ESPN.
