‘A Difference Maker’: Corey Seager Draws Praise After 2-Hit Texas Rangers Return Against Washington Nationals

ARLINGTON, Texas — Corey Seager doubled, scored a run, and dove headfirst into second base Tuesday night in his first game back from a scheduled day off. The Texas Rangers beat the Washington Nationals 5-0 at Globe Life Field.

Seager went 2-for-4. The double was his ninth of the season.

Rangers manager Skip Schumaker kept Seager out of Sunday’s lineup against the Athletics, per The Dallas Morning News. Seager had started 9 games in a row at that point. Texas was off Monday, which gave him a second day away from the field.

Corey Seager’s Three Injured List Stints in 2026

Back spasms cost Seager a three-game series against the Houston Astros in May. Texas put him on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation, retroactive to May 15, and he came off it June 4.

He lasted a week. On June 11 at Kauffman Stadium, Seager collided with Kansas City Royals catcher Carter Jensen at home plate in the first inning. He stayed in the game and homered in the third. Concussion symptoms surfaced over the following days, and the Rangers moved him to the 7-day concussion list on June 15, retroactive to June 12. He returned June 25 in Toronto.

The back flared again in early July. Seager left a game with back pain in the first inning and went on the 10-day injured list for a third time. Texas activated him July 31.

An appendectomy had ended his 2025 season the previous September. He finished that year batting .271 with 21 home runs and 50 RBIs across 445 plate appearances.

What Corey Seager Has Given Texas Since His Return

Seager is batting .208 with a .705 OPS. Over his past 10 games he is 9-for-36 with 2 doubles and 2 home runs.

Texas signed Seager to a 10-year, $325 million contract before the 2022 season. The two-time World Series MVP is 32.

The Rangers played four games at Angel Stadium from Aug. 10-13. Seager started three of them.

Schumaker said the Rangers took their walks in the third inning Tuesday and drove up the pitch count to get into the Washington bullpen early.

“Corey is doing everything he can to stay on the field and provide everything he can every day he plays,” Schumaker said. “You see him diving. You saw him dive for balls in Anaheim. You see him diving into second base today. You see what he provides on the offensive side. It’s a difference maker when he’s in the lineup.”

“And today he hit the ball really hard against a lefty in the lineup,” Schumaker continued. “It doesn’t really matter who throws, righty or lefty, for Corey. But it’s just nice to have him in the middle of the order providing offense, going first to third with him and Wyatt at the top twice today was why we scored a lot of runs.”

Wyatt Langford scored twice Tuesday and reached base 3 times. Texas scored in each of the first three innings and led 5-0 by the end of the third.

Texas is 62-64 and second in the American League West with 36 games left. The Rangers and Nationals meet again Wednesday at Globe Life Field. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network, with Kumar Rocker starting against Cade Cavalli.
