Dallas Native Scottie Scheffler Rolls To FedEx St. Jude Championship Win

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Dallas native Scottie Scheffler won the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Sunday in Memphis, going 17-under.

“It was nice to come out this week and play some solid golf and really execute when I needed to,” Scheffler said after the victory. “This is a course where that’s really what it comes down to. There’s a lot of holes where there’s not even a correct miss. It’s just a matter of stepping up there and hitting really good shots.”

Scheffler’s win is a win for Dallas, where he spent much of his formative years. He moved to Dallas from New Jersey when he was just six years old. Once in Texas, he honed his game at Royal Oaks Country Club and later Highland Park High School.

Jordan Spieth Starts Fast Before Scottie Scheffler Makes His Move

On Thursday, Scheffler shot a 68. That performance left 16 golfers ahead of him on Day One.

Tied for first place after the first day was North Texas’ other premier golfer: Jordan Spieth. Born and raised in the metroplex, Spieth is an alum of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. He finished Day One shooting 5-under, but surrendered his advantage over the weekend.

Spieth finished the St. Jude Championship tied for 19th place, going 4-under and taking home a $242,400 purse.

Scheffler made up ground on Day Two, leading the field with a 61-stroke day. That performance also tied a course record, making Scheffler the fifth-ever golfer to shoot a 61 at TPC Southwind. Before him, Justin Rose (2023), Tom Lewis (2020), Bob Estes (2001) and Jay Delsing (1993) accomplished the feat.

Scottie Scheffler Pulls Away For Eight-Stroke Victory

Saturday saw Scheffler shoot another 68, but by the final day, he sat atop the leaderboard. He entered the fourth and final round on Sunday shooting 13-under, leaving him two strokes ahead of Sungjae Im and Sam Burns.

He didn’t let off the gas, shooting four-under-par on Sunday and extending his lead for a comfortable 8-stroke victory in Memphis, giving him his 21st PGA Tour victory. The eight strokes separating Scheffler from second place also marked the largest margin of victory on the tour so far this season.

Scheffler recorded 23 birdies to lead the field and 43 pars on the weekend, winning a $3.6 million purse.

Scottie Scheffler Values Wins Over Statistics

Asked about being in the midst of a career-best season statistically, Scheffler let it be known that he’s more focused on wins than stats.

“I felt like I didn’t play as good early in the year as I could have. I felt like I was battling my swing a little bit, but just staying consistent, staying in it each week,” Scheffler said. “That’s what I’m most proud of, I think, is just having the ability to kind of fight and claw my way through things and (Ted Scott, Scheffler’s caddie) always does such a good job of keeping me in it when we’re on the course and then I have a great team off the course, as well.

“It’s nice to be able to pay it off with a win this week. You know, statistics are one thing but being able to win golf tournaments is another.”
