FRISCO, Texas — Rashan Gary has no sacks through two games in his first season with the Dallas Cowboys. The edge rusher said Wednesday at The Star that he would be more frustrated if the pass rush were not getting pressures and hits.
Dallas had 2 sacks in the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13 and none in Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders. Donovan Ezeiruaku leads the Cowboys with 9 quarterback pressures.
The Cowboys acquired Gary from the Green Bay Packers in March for a 2027 fourth-round pick. As part of the trade he agreed to a pay cut to $16 million for each of the next two seasons, NFL Network reported. Gary, 28, has 46.5 career sacks and made the Pro Bowl in 2024. He had 7.5 sacks in each of the last two seasons. Defensive coordinator Christian Parker was a defensive quality control coach in Green Bay during Gary’s rookie season in 2019.
The plan is working, Gary said, and the No. 1 thing is not changing it.
“It’s still early in the season,” Gary said. “It’s two weeks. I’ll be more frustrated if the things that we practice is not coming to fruition, we’re not getting pressures, we’re not getting hits. But when sacks come, they come in bunches. And the number one thing is not changing the plan, especially when the plan is working. So we just got to stay true to what we’re doing, and it’s all going to start clicking soon.”
Rashan Gary On Lamar Jackson And Derrick Henry
Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are next, Sunday at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Jackson is a two-time MVP with 181 rushing yards in two career games against Dallas. Derrick Henry has 212 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns in two games.
Jackson has stayed in the pocket through two weeks, Gary said.
“Derrick Henry, hard runner, especially once he gets past the line of scrimmage,” Gary explained. “His tape speaks for itself, the type of his resume speaks for itself, but very elusive, big-time playmaker. A guy that the team will rely on and lean on when they need him to get tough yards, things like that.”
“Lamar Jackson, the same thing, man,” Gary continued. “In terms of him, seems like he’s been doing a great job staying in the pocket throughout the first two weeks, actually being true to playing quarterback. But then Lamar’s Lamar, he’s gonna be able to extend plays, especially if our rush lane integrity is off. And just if any type of seams is open and a breakdown of coverage may happen or a breakdown, whatever the case may be. But yeah, he’s able to extend plays.”
Rashan Gary On Cowboys Rush Lane Discipline
The Cowboys have allowed 126 rushing yards to quarterbacks through two games, the most in the NFL. Defensive tackle Kenny Clark said Tuesday that the game has to be won up front.
Gary described the job up front as four rushers moving as one.
“There’s always a point of emphasis,” Gary said. “There’s always a point of emphasis just in terms of it don’t matter what quarterback we’re going against, they’re running. You could say it’s more emphasized, but we understand, four equal one, we got to control up front.”
