The Dallas Wings have re-signed guard Serena Sundell to a second seven-day hardship contract, dallassportsjournal.com/ reported Tuesday.
Sundell first joined the Wings on Aug. 26 under a hardship deal, providing backcourt depth amid a rash of injuries. She has played 21 minutes across three appearances and will continue to be available as Dallas navigates the final stretch of its season.
Dallas Wings Continue to Deal With Injuries
The 6-foot guard has helped the Wings maintain roster minimums while logging reserve minutes. Her ability to handle the ball and defend multiple spots has been valuable in a backcourt thinned by long-term absences.
Arike Ogunbowale (right knee tendonitis) remains out indefinitely, JJ Quinerly (ACL sprain) is done for the season, and Tyasha Harris (left knee surgery) has not played since early in the year. Haley Jones has also missed the past two games with a right knee injury, further cutting into the rotation.
Before entering the WNBA, Sundell starred at Kansas State, where she became the program’s all-time assists leader and surpassed 1,500 career points. She was a two-time First Team All-Big 12 selection, led the nation in assists per game as a senior with 7.3, and helped guide K-State to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2002.
This summer, she added international experience with USA Basketball in the FIBA 3×3 circuit and also won the Spokane Hoopfest 3XBA event.
Dallas Wings Continue Injury Management
Sundell’s return comes as Dallas (9-32) continues to juggle lineup challenges. Aziaha James is nearing a return from a right ankle injury after participating in Monday’s shootaround, while fellow rookie Luisa Geiselsöder was recently ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury. Li Yueru is also sidelined with a season-ending ACL sprain.
The Wings recently signed forward Ajae Petty to a hardship contract to bolster their frontcourt, and guard Christyn Williams completed her hardship stint on Monday. Williams is expected to re-sign on a new deal, sources told dallassportsjournal.com/.
Dallas will face the Golden State Valkyries on Thursday at 9 p.m. CT at Chase Center before visiting the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday.
