LOS ANGELES — Back in Los Angeles, veteran guard Odyssey Sims says the streaking Dallas Wings have found something worth protecting.
“I think honestly we found our momentum. We kind of found where we want to be at,” Sims said. “We’re still slowly but surely finding our identity, but we’re on a three-game winning streak.”
Why Odyssey Sims Says Nothing Needs to Change
The Wings (6-3) carry their longest active streak of the season into Friday and can make it four straight with a win, which would be their longest run since 2023. The current stretch includes a 79-56 rout of Seattle on Monday, a 95-87 victory over Las Vegas on May 28 and a 91-76 win at New York on May 24.
Dallas leads the WNBA in assists per game at 23.4 and in fast-break points at 11.7, the transition-heavy identity Sims described. The 6-3 record is the franchise’s best nine-game start since it moved to North Texas in 2016, and the backcourt rotation around Sims also includes Bueckers, Ogunbowale, Fudd and Aziaha James.
“I don’t think we need to change anything. Continue to do what we’ve been doing, get out and run,” Sims said. “Obviously, we’re the best when we’re out in transition, and most importantly, have fun with it.”
Head coach Jose Fernandez offered a similar read on what has fueled the run.
“It helps when the ball goes in the basket and we’re defending a lot better,” Fernandez said. “Making sure that great shots are taken, because bad ones lead to bad transition defense.”
Keeping the Focus on Dallas
The Sparks sit at 4-5 and expect leading scorer Kelsey Plum back after a three-game absence, while Rae Burrell is in question after a career-high 22 points on Tuesday.
Sims flagged Dearica Hamby as a player who can push the pace, which is a concern for a Dallas team that prefers to control the tempo. The Wings are also chasing their first road win over the Sparks since May 26, 2024. Sims said Dallas will keep the focus on itself regardless of the Sparks’ lineup.
“Regardless of who’s playing and who’s not, just making sure we don’t overlook who is and who’s not,” Sims said. “Continue to play Wings basketball.”
