ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers reinstated infielder/outfielder Michael Helman from the 60-day injured list Tuesday, a little more than three months after a pitch at Boston left him with multiple fractures in his right hand.
Right-hander Cal Quantrill went to the 60-day injured list in the same set of moves, taking Helman’s place there. With both moves made, the Rangers stayed at the 40-man limit on their major league roster and still have six players on the 60-day list.
Helman returns on the same day Texas placed designated hitter Joc Pederson on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left hand, retroactive to Sept. 19. The Rangers also activated right-hander Peyton Gray from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Left-hander Adam Macko was optioned to the Arizona Complex League Rangers.
Michael Helman’s Hand Injury And Rehab Assignment
Helman sustained multiple fractures in the pinkie finger of his right hand when he was hit by a pitch June 13 at Boston. Texas placed him on the 10-day injured list June 14, a day after outfielder Evan Carter went on the injured list with an oblique strain. Helman was moved to the 60-day list June 19.
He began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Round Rock on Sept. 15. The Express hosted Tacoma in their final week. They closed the regular season Sunday.
Michael Helman’s Time With The Texas Rangers
Before the injury, Helman batted .167/.235/.300 with 1 home run and 2 RBIs in 15 games this season. He played center field in 9 of those games, shortstop in 4, and left field and right field once each.
In 2025, Helman hit .232/.290/.455 with 5 home runs and 20 RBIs in 38 games across three stints with Texas. He had 5 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 stolen bases. He made 29 starts. Texas was his fourth organization that year.
At 78-78, the Rangers lead the Houston Astros by one game in the American League West with six games left, though Houston owns the tiebreaker between the two clubs. Tuesday’s series opener against the New York Mets sends MacKenzie Gore to the mound against left-hander Sean Manaea, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. CT at Globe Life Field.
The two teams play again at 7:05 p.m. CT Wednesday before a 1:35 p.m. CT series finale Thursday. From there, Texas finishes the regular season with three games against the Minnesota Twins at Target Field from Sept. 25-27.
