ARLINGTON, Texas — MacKenzie Gore played catch Sunday at Globe Life Field, Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said, and the club has not settled on a day for the left-hander’s next start.
Schumaker had not spoken with Gore after the session by the time he met the cameras before Sunday’s finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.
On The Skip Schumaker Show, the pregame segment Rangers Sports Network posts, Schumaker said the Rangers are hoping Gore starts at some point next week.
“He’s playing catch today. I haven’t talked to him after he’s played catch yet, so we’ll see what he looks like and how he feels and figure out what day he’s going to start,” Schumaker said. “And hopefully he’s going to start next week.”
On Saturday, Gore said he plans to make his next start as long as the next few days of throwing go fine, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reported. Gore told McFarland the muscle spasms are still a day-to-day matter and that he believes the Rangers have figured out how to keep them from recurring.

Gore grabbed at his back after a 2-1 pitch in the second inning Wednesday night, MLB.com reported. Schumaker, pitching coach Jordan Tiegs, and head athletic trainer Matt Lucero went to the mound, and Gore stayed in the game.
He did not record an out in the fifth and was charged with 3 runs on 2 hits over 4-plus innings. Gore walked 3, did not strike out a batter, and threw 36 of his 69 pitches for strikes. Texas beat the Boston Red Sox 7-3.
The spasms were affecting Gore’s control, Schumaker said after that game, and he compared them to what sidelined Gore at Coors Field in May. Gore came out after one inning against the Colorado Rockies on May 18 with left lat tightness.
MacKenzie Gore’s 2026 Season With The Texas Rangers
Gore is 8-11 with a 4.67 ERA over 32 starts in his first season with Texas, and his 32 starts are tied for the most in the majors. The Rangers acquired him from the Washington Nationals in the offseason, a year after he made the All-Star team in 2025.
In his start before Boston, on Sept. 11 at Chase Field, Gore allowed 4 runs on 5 hits over 4-plus innings of a 9-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. All 4 runs came in the fourth inning, when Arizona hit four doubles.
Texas is off Monday and opens a three-game series against the New York Mets on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. CT at Globe Life Field. The Rangers have not announced a starter for that game. Jacob deGrom (11-9, 3.79 ERA) starts Sunday’s finale against Toronto at 1:35 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network.
