‘Tremendous Growth Opportunity’: Chris Young Explains Texas Rangers’ Promotion Of Hamilton Wise To Vice President

ARLINGTON, Texas — Hamilton Wise will oversee the Texas Rangers’ Latin America and Pacific Rim scouting operations along with amateur scouting in his new job as vice president of amateur and international scouting, MLB.com’s Kennedi Landry reported. Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young announced the promotion Monday while speaking with reporters.
Wise spent the last two years as the club’s senior director of international scouting. He joined the front office as an intern in 2016 and has worked in the Rangers’ international scouting operations since 2017.
Young said Wise’s work has mattered more than his profile suggests. The strategy and systems Wise built on the international side stood out, according to Young.
“Hamilton has been a tremendously impactful member of our front office team, though maybe not as visible,” Young said. “That said, this promotion is a tremendous growth opportunity. We love what he has done on the international side in terms of not just the management of his staff, but the strategy, the systems he’s put in place.”
Hamilton Wise Adds Amateur Scouting To International Duties
Wise earned an economics degree from Northwestern University, where he was a four-year varsity baseball letter winner, and he holds a law degree and an MBA from Tulane. As director of international scouting and development, he also ran the club’s international player development out of its academy in the Dominican Republic, according to a Tulane University Law School biography.
Francys Romero of Béisbol FR first reported in October that Texas had promoted Wise, citing sources, and that other teams had pursued him. Young expects Wise to bring the same approach to the amateur side while running both.
“We expect that he’ll be able to do the same on the amateur side while managing both,” Young explained. “Hamilton’s extremely talented. He’s a smart smart person. He’s a very good critical thinker. He’s got great leadership qualities, and this is a great opportunity for him.”
Mike Parnell, Nick Hundley Round Out Texas Rangers Front Office Moves
Young also promoted Mike Parnell to vice president of pro personnel. Parnell has spent 13 seasons with the Rangers, including the last three as senior director of professional scouting, after starting with the club as an intern in 2014. Longtime assistant general manager Josh Boyd moved into a senior advisor role with the amateur and Pacific Rim departments as part of the reshuffle.
Nick Hundley moved up to vice president of player development after five seasons in the front office as a special assistant to Young and a senior advisor of baseball operations. Young described the job as one Hundley will share with farm director Josh Bonifay and a larger staff.
“Nick is the top voice in player development,” Young said. “Nick will oversee the day-to-day along with Josh Bonifay, but this is a whole team of people. … I think he will be a great voice in our player development to continue a lot of the things that we’ve done, and enhance where we want to go.”
