FRISCO, Texas — Quinnen Williams is arguably one of the top two or three players on the Dallas Cowboys, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Friday.
Jones spoke on the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan about Williams taking a leadership role after a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
Williams has stature among his teammates, according to Jones, and that is what it takes to stand up.
“In order to stand up, you have got to really have stature. And he’s got it,” Jones said. “And he has got it. And he has it among the team. And he just has it. He’s arguably one of the top two or three players on the team. And so it’s real good for everybody concerned, for our fans, for everybody, for me, for everybody, for him to take that leadership role. And so that’s a big plus for us, that he’s got that quality.”
Williams is one of four Cowboys captains. Against New York, he forced the only fumble Dallas recovered and finished with 2 combined tackles and a quarterback hit.
He was also flagged for a defensive offside on the Giants’ opening touchdown drive.
Quinnen Williams Called For Accountability After Giants Loss
Third down was where the defense lost the game for Williams. New York converted 9 of 11 and held the ball for 36:40.
“The guys we got in our locker room, especially on defense, are unbelievable when it comes down to taking constructive criticism and accountability, first of all, and let’s move,” Williams said after the game. “We had a lot of mental errors, a lot of busts today, and just really need to be critical with that going into this week, and focus on getting better.”
The group can do more, too, Williams said Wednesday.
“I think I did decent, man, but the player that I am, man, I can do more,” Williams explained. “The group that we have, we can do more. The player I am, I can do more.”
Quinnen Williams Arrived In Trade From New York Jets
Dallas acquired Williams from the New York Jets at the trade deadline on Nov. 4, 2025. The Jets drafted him third overall in 2019. He is a four-time Pro Bowler.
The Cowboys allowed 511 points last season, the most in the NFL. Dallas then replaced defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus with Christian Parker.
Dallas hosts the Washington Commanders and quarterback Jayden Daniels on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.
