‘He’s Not Hurt’: Jerry Jones Defends Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott After Loss To Arizona Cardinals

FRISCO, Texas — Two days after a 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said quarterback Dak Prescott is not hurt. Questions about Prescott’s health, his focus, and his age came up Tuesday morning during Jones’ weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan & RJ”.
Prescott went 19-of-29 for 195 yards, 1 touchdown, and 0 interceptions Sunday and ran 7 times for 20 yards and 1 touchdown. Arizona sacked him 4 times, and Dallas ran 39 times for 93 yards. Jones also shot down any idea that Prescott is distracted.
“Well, first of all, he’s not hurt,” Jones said. “First of all, the last thing that you’ll ever have from Dak Prescott is distracted from the job at hand, which is to lead this football team.”
Jerry Jones Says Dak Prescott ‘Played Well Considering The Protection’
Prescott turned 33 in July. He is in the second season of the four-year, $240 million extension he signed in September 2024.
“And so you ask me, is he getting older? Well, we’re all getting older. But I understand the context that you separate that in,” Jones explained. “And no, you saw him move the ball for us when the run wasn’t working for us. I thought he played well considering the protection and considering us not being able to effectively get the running game going.”
Arizona defended 5 passes Sunday, and Dallas managed 2.4 yards per carry. Late in the game, the blocking broke down in both phases, according to Jones.
“We weren’t there as far as blocking it up, protecting, giving us more time passing or in the running game,” Jones said. “We had a letdown there in the game Sunday.”
Cowboys COO and executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday on the station’s “K&C Masterpiece” that pressure was a problem again. He gave Arizona’s defense credit.
“You have to give the Cardinals credit. They’re a good defensive football team,” Stephen Jones said. “Certainly, we struggled with pressure at times again yesterday in terms of a lot of tip balls, a lot of pressure that we didn’t handle as well.”
Earlier in the interview, Jones said the Cowboys built their plan around the offense carrying the team while the defense is rebuilt. He named Prescott as the reason.
“We’ve been doing that under the premise that we had an offense and we had a head coach that can run that offense extremely well, in my opinion, as well as the people in place, namely Dak, that can give us a heck of a run,” Jones said.
Brian Schottenheimer Calls Prescott ‘A Competitor’
Prescott said after Sunday’s game that he would have liked to be more aggressive on the drive after Dallas recovered an onside kick with 2:11 left. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday there is no disconnect between the two.
“No, I don’t think there’s a disconnect,” Schottenheimer said. “I think Dak’s a competitor, and I didn’t say that we shouldn’t have finished the game off. We believe in our ability to finish the game off, and we didn’t.”
Dallas is 3-5 and visits the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon CT on FOX.
