‘He Needs The Ball Coming His Way More’: Jerry Jones Wants Dallas Cowboys To Feature George Pickens

FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Tuesday that receiver George Pickens needs the ball more. Jones said it during his weekly appearance on 105.3 The Fan’s “Shan & RJ”, two days after Pickens caught 2 passes for 48 yards on 4 targets in a 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
CeeDee Lamb was targeted 11 times Sunday. Jones said getting the ball to Pickens is the clearest thing Dallas can do differently.
“He needs the ball coming his way more,” Jones said. “And there’s your good case. You say, what can you do differently than we did out there the other day? We get the ball in that direction more.”
Jerry Jones Points To Run-Heavy Game Plan
Dallas ran 39 times for 93 yards. The Cowboys came in planning to run, according to Jones, and Arizona’s defensive line didn’t let them.
“We had a really firm game plan to come out there and run that ball. We ran the ball, I think, 39 times, and we just didn’t get it done,” Jones explained. “And the Arizona line, defensive line, is to be commended. They do not have that reputation to be able to have the kind of game that they had against us. So that’s one of the frustrating things about that game.”
Pickens is playing this season on the Cowboys’ one-year, $27.3 million franchise tag. In 2025, his first season in Dallas, he set career highs with 93 catches, 1,429 yards, and 9 touchdowns and made his first Pro Bowl.
Stephen Jones Pointed To George Pickens’ Health
On Monday, Cowboys COO and executive vice president Stephen Jones said on the station’s “K&C Masterpiece” that Pickens has been dealing with his hamstring and other issues. Video showed Pickens running to the locker room right after Sunday’s game.
“George has some things health-wise that he’s communicating with the offensive staff on when he’s had some different things with his hamstring and some other things that tighten up on him during the game,” Stephen Jones said. “It wasn’t necessarily that we were pulling him out of the game.”
ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said Monday on “First Take” that Dallas has to trade Pickens. The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 10.
Dallas visits the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Lucas Oil Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon CT on FOX.
