Veteran free agent DeMar DeRozan has found his next landing spot in the NBA.
According to reports from NBA insiders Chris Haynes and Shams Charania, the 37-year-old will sign with the Denver Nuggets. Charania reported that the deal is for one year and $3.9 million.
Haynes reported that DeRozan has been in contact with several Nuggets players and is “anxious” to play for a contender.
The Sacramento Kings waived DeRozan earlier this summer, sending him to free agency. He had to wait for his next opportunity, but Denver gives him a chance to join a team with championship expectations.
DeMar DeRozan Gets Another Chance To Chase NBA Title
DeRozan has completed 17 NBA seasons and is still searching for his first championship. He did not reach the playoffs during his two years with Sacramento, including last season when the Kings finished 22-60.
Denver was eliminated in the first round last season, but any team built around Nikola Jokić has reason to think bigger.
The three-time MVP led the Nuggets to the 2023 NBA championship. Denver also reached the second round in 2024 and 2025 before its earlier exit last season.
DeRozan now gets a chance to join that group as Denver tries to make another run in the Western Conference.
What DeMar DeRozan Brings To Denver Nuggets
It remains to be seen exactly how Denver will use DeRozan after he spent most of his career as a starter.
He started all 77 games he played for Sacramento last season and averaged 18.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.
Denver will be DeRozan’s fifth NBA team. His résumé includes six All-Star selections and three All-NBA honors, along with nearly two decades of experience as one of the league’s most productive scorers.
At this point in his career, the Nuggets do not need DeRozan to carry an offense. They are adding another veteran scorer to a roster centered on Jokić, while DeRozan gets another opportunity to pursue the championship that has eluded him throughout his career.
