‘Toughness And Versatility’: Mike Schmitz Explains Why Dallas Mavericks Extended Naji Marshall

DALLAS — Naji Marshall signed a three-year, $52.2 million extension with the Dallas Mavericks on Aug. 2 that runs through 2029-30. During Friday’s appearance on 1310 The Ticket, general manager Mike Schmitz said the Mavericks studied Marshall’s film before the new front office arrived, then got a closer look at him day to day.

“He brings a level of toughness and versatility, and he can play with the ball, he can play without the ball. He’s super competitive,” Schmitz said. “We quickly saw just studying his film and his body of work prior to coming here, but then just being around him more on a day-to-day basis and what he means to the team and the organization. So excited for Naji to continue making strides in his career and continue improving in a variety of areas, but yeah, toughness, the feel, IQ, and the playmaking ability to put pressure on the rim are definitely areas where he adds value.”
