ARLINGTON, Texas — Josh Jung did not take part in on-field activity Friday, and Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said the third baseman is probably still “a couple of weeks away,” according to The Dallas Morning News.
Friday marked one month on the injured list for Jung, who is dealing with a strain in the lower portion of his left calf.
The Timeline
Jung exited the July 22 game against the Chicago White Sox in the fifth inning after legging out a single. Texas placed him on the 10-day injured list on July 25, retroactive to July 22. The initial expectation was that the calf would sideline him for a couple of days.
Jung made no progress over a two-week stretch. He stopped attempting to run and wore a walking boot for 10 days to rest the calf. He returned to jogging Monday and called his most recent MRI promising Tuesday, as Dallas Sports Journal wrote.
By Friday, that attempt to ramp back up had been curtailed.
What Texas Is Missing
Jung was hitting .294 with 9 home runs and 104 hits when the calf sent him to the injured list. He ranked among the American League leaders in batting average at the time.
Jung is in his fourth full major league season. The Rangers drafted him eighth overall out of Texas Tech in 2019, and he was an All-Star in 2023, the year Texas won the World Series. He is playing on a one-year, $2.9 million contract.
Where The Texas Rangers Stand
Texas is 63-65. The Rangers are second in the American League West, 1 game behind the Houston Astros.
They open a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Friday at Globe Life Field, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network.
