ARLINGTON, Texas — Haley Jones is back on a standard contract with the Dallas Wings. The team announced Thursday that it converted her Developmental Player agreement into a Standard Player Contract. Dallas had an open roster spot after waiving guard Sug Sutton on Wednesday with a season-ending injury.
Jones signed her Developmental Player contract with the Wings on June 21 after the Portland Fire waived her. Since then, she has appeared in three games for Dallas and is averaging 1.3 points on 50% shooting.
Haley Jones’ Two Stints With The Dallas Wings
Jones first joined Dallas on a hardship contract in June 2025. The Wings waived her June 29, 2025, and brought her back on a rest-of-season contract on July 9.
Over 24 games for Dallas last season, Jones made 16 starts. She averaged career bests of 8.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.8 steals per game.
Portland selected Jones in April’s expansion draft. She played in all five of the Fire’s games this season, averaging 5.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 11.4 minutes, before Portland waived her and Sutton on the same day, May 21.
On her developmental deal, Jones could be activated for no more than 12 games this season. Her contract paid a weekly stipend, plus per-game pay for each regular-season game in which the Wings activated her.
Sug Sutton Waived After Right Hand Injury In Practice
Sutton sustained the injury to her right hand in practice earlier this week, according to the team. The Wings will continue to lead her rehab.
Dallas signed Sutton on June 14. In 22 games for the Wings, she averaged 2.3 points on 48.8% shooting and 1.5 assists. Her last appearance came Aug. 30 in a 97-71 home win over the Connecticut Sun, the Wings’ final game before the FIBA World Cup break.
When it announced the waiver Wednesday, Dallas said it expected to fill the open spot before Thursday’s game. The Wings listed rookie Azzi Fudd (right knee) and Alanna Smith (lower left leg) as out on their game status report. Fudd is out for the season, and Dallas signed guard Kitija Laksa on Aug. 25 through a Season-Ending Injury Exception granted by the WNBA.
The Wings (24-16) host the Los Angeles Sparks (15-25) on Thursday at College Park Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT, with the game airing nationally on USA Network and locally on KFAA 29.
Dallas clinched its playoff spot before the break and is tied with the New York Liberty and Washington Mystics for sixth place. The Atlanta Dream and Indiana Fever are 26-14. Those five teams each have four games left in the regular season.
The Wings beat Los Angeles 104-96 on the road June 5. They beat the Sparks again, 90-82, at home on July 19. Dallas last swept the season series from Los Angeles in 2021.
