Dallas Wings To Play All 2027 Home Games At American Airlines Center

DALLAS — The Dallas Wings will play all of their 2027 home games at American Airlines Center, the team announced Monday, moving the franchise out of College Park Center after 11 seasons in Arlington.

American Airlines Center is home to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and the downtown building holds about 20,000 for basketball. College Park Center, on the campus of the University of Texas at Arlington, has housed the Wings since the franchise relocated from Tulsa before the 2016 season and seats about 7,000 for their games.

“Today’s announcement marks a pivotal step in the team’s relocation to Dallas as well as our continued growth as a professional sports enterprise,” Wings CEO and managing partner Greg Bibb said in the team’s announcement. “American Airlines Center is a world-class venue in the heart of Dallas providing the spaces and amenities our athletes deserve while delivering an incredible environment for our growing and passionate fan base.”

The move is a temporary one. Dallas signed a 15-year use agreement with the City of Dallas in 2024 to play at a renovated Dallas Memorial Auditorium, and construction delays at that site sent the team to American Airlines Center instead. The Dallas City Council approved that agreement, worth $19 million, in April 2024.

Arena general manager Dave Brown was quoted in the same release.

“American Airlines Center is proud to serve as the home of the Dallas Wings, and we look forward to being part of the continued growth and excitement surrounding women’s sports,” Brown said. “We have tremendous respect for the organization’s leadership, the talent and dedication of its players, and the bright future of the franchise in Dallas.”

What the Dallas Memorial Auditorium Delays Changed

Memorial Auditorium, inside the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, was originally targeted for the 2026 season. That date moved to 2027 after the Wings agreed to accommodate the FIFA World Cup broadcast center next door, and the project is now projected for 2028. Current plans call for a capacity of 8,400.

Construction also continues on the Wings’ performance center in the West Oak Cliff neighborhood, which the team said will open next April and serve as its permanent training home. Costs on that facility rose from $54 million to $81 million, and the Wings took over its development, agreeing to cover expenses beyond the funds the city had already approved.

Wings coach Jose Fernandez told reporters in May that the team would play its full 2027 slate at American Airlines Center, saying it would also open training camp in the new practice facility. Bibb tempered that days later, telling USA Today the Wings had no finalized agreement and had not secured the league approval required to change venues for a season. Monday’s release did not address that approval.

Bibb used the announcement to close out the Arlington era.

“We would also like to thank John Hall, Chris Fulton and the staff at College Park Center for their decade-plus partnership,” Bibb said. “When the team moved to North Texas in 2016, the city of Arlington and University of Texas-Arlington welcomed us and provided an incredible venue for our athletes, coaches, staff, partners and fans. College Park Center has always felt like home and that is a credit to the people and the partnership along with the building itself.”

Dallas played two regular-season games at American Airlines Center in 2025, both against the Indiana Fever. The June 27 meeting drew a sold-out crowd of 20,409, which the team lists as a franchise single-game record, the largest WNBA crowd ever in Texas, and the eighth regular-season game in league history to draw more than 20,000 fans. The second 2025 game at the arena drew 17,857.

Three more Wings games were scheduled at American Airlines Center for 2026. Dallas beat the Chicago Sky 96-91 there on July 12 in front of 13,236 fans. Fernandez pointed to the crowd afterward as a factor in the fourth-quarter push.

“In the fourth quarter, you could really feel the energy. Talk about a sixth man,” Fernandez said that night. “If we have a home crowd like that in this building, it’s special, and our players feed off that.”

Season Ticket Timeline for 2027

Current Wings season ticket members get the first window to select seat locations at American Airlines Center, with renewals beginning Aug. 10. New memberships go on sale Aug. 20, the night Dallas hosts Indiana at the arena.

Season ticket memberships at College Park Center sold out for a third straight year ahead of the 2026 season, the team announced in April.

Dallas enters the week 19-11 and fourth in the Western Conference after an 83-63 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.
