‘Make Them Change’: Dak Prescott Wants Dallas Cowboys To Start Fast And Stay On Script Against Indianapolis Colts

FRISCO, Texas — Dak Prescott said Thursday that starting fast and finishing has been the Dallas Cowboys’ plan all week for Sunday’s game at the Indianapolis Colts, and that Dallas has to make defenses change before it changes.
The Cowboys put together four strong quarters in a Week 7 win at Philadelphia and could not do it in Sunday’s 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals, a game they led 17-3 late in the third quarter.
Sticking with the fastball is the idea.
“Yeah, I mean, just that’s been the game plan all week, of starting fast and making sure we finish and stay consistent with just our game plan and making sure the things that we want to do, whether it’s your fastball, making sure when we attack with that, we finish with that as well, and make them change before we change and get away from anything,” Prescott said. “Words are all good, but we just gotta go out there and we’ve gotta put it together. And it’s not just on offense, it’s on defense, it’s on special teams, and it’s putting a full, complete, complementary game together from all three levels.”
Dak Prescott Says The Opening Script Comes Later In The Week
How Dallas sequences its first plays will be set late in the week. Prescott said that list is where getting players like George Pickens involved will show.
“I think if anything, it’s going to really come on this later end of the week and just how we sequence up the starters and the plays, the list that we put together of how we want to start this game. And I think from there, you’ll see,” Prescott explained.
Prescott also offered a golf analogy for pressing, then gave up on it. “Golf sometimes, a golfer can squeeze the glove too much, right? And things aren’t going bad. I don’t even know why I miss when I miss. Golf might not be the best analogy for me,” Prescott said.
CeeDee Lamb Wants It Simpler
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said Dallas complicates things at times and has to make the game simpler.
“We got to just make it much more simpler. Make the game much simpler. I feel like we complicated it in a way to some degree on certain times, but I feel like we’re not coming up and getting the first down on third downs and things of that nature,” Lamb said.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Wednesday that he wants Pickens involved earlier in games. “It’s certainly something that we’d like to get done earlier in games, get him off to a good start,” Schottenheimer said.
Indianapolis is 2-6 and has lost four straight. Running back Jonathan Taylor has 610 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, and Dallas allows the most rushing yards per game in the NFL. Kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium is set for noon CT Sunday on FOX.
