EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Dak Prescott was not sacked once in the Dallas Cowboys‘ 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sunday night at MetLife Stadium. Dallas also rushed for 69 yards on 18 carries and averaged 3.8, and Prescott said the line knows which of those numbers matters.
“I can tell you our offensive line is pissed about it,” Prescott said. “So look forward to the way that they respond and their mentality moving forward.”
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said the Giants were in the backfield before the runs started.
“I thought, again, they pushed us around a little bit up front. Their defensive line, our running game, there was way too much penetration early in the game,” Schottenheimer said. “Javonte was running into freaking, you know, a wall in the beginning of the game. And we made some good adjustments at halftime. But it’s a team game.”
Dak Prescott On The Early Protection
Prescott scrambled for 10 yards on the first play of Dallas’ third possession and for 4 more two snaps later. He finished with 2 carries for 14 yards.
“They’ve got good pass rushers. That’s what they’ve invested in over the years, and credit to them,” Prescott said. “They’ve got good players over there. But as you just said, our guys settled in, they did a good job. Yeah, made me get off the spot and move around, scramble a little bit early. But our guys settled in and did a good job.”
Asked where the trouble came from on the ground, Prescott deferred to the tape.
“That’s film. It’s something I’ve got to look at the film. A lot of times I hand the ball off, carry out my fake, do my job,” Prescott said. “And I’m sure he’s talking about to that extent, just not being able to get the run game going. And when you’re not able to do that, obviously you credit the other team for controlling the line of scrimmage.”
The Dallas Cowboys’ Run Game By Half
Javonte Williams carried 12 times for 41 yards and a touchdown, with a long of 8. He gained 25 yards on 9 first-half carries and 16 on 3 after halftime. Dallas managed 50 rushing yards on 14 carries in the first half and 19 on 4 in the second, when the Cowboys had the ball for only 8:27.
“Yeah, they played a great game. We just got to execute better next time we see them,” Williams said. “I feel like we could have started a little faster. We could have played better on both sides. It ain’t one side’s fault or the other side’s fault.”
New York finished with 1 tackle for loss. Dallas recorded none.
Eight-Minute Drives And The Wait
The Giants ran drives of 8:01 and 8:11 in the second half. Prescott was asked what that does to a quarterback waiting on the sideline.
“Just got to go out there and score. I got to do my job, control what I can control, and go get points, and trust in them and believe in them and go in and make stops after that,” Prescott said. “We did go and score. Yeah, and they only allowed us to have two possessions in the second half.”
Dallas scored touchdowns on both.
