EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Dak Prescott was asked what he tells young players after a first NFL game that went the way Sunday’s did for the Dallas Cowboys, who lost 28-20 to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
“I know the way that we approach things. I know that our routine, I know that our standard, I know that the way that we practice is the right way. So my message is echo and don’t change,” Prescott said. “Don’t flinch. Don’t blink. This is a long year. We have to stick together. We’re hanging our hat on our brotherhood, and that’s who we believe that we are. So there’s no better time to show it than after a loss, a little bit of adversity.”
Prescott said he expects the coverage to be harsh and told his teammates to ignore it.
“We got to make sure we use it as a lesson. Humble us,” Prescott said. “I’m sure you guys are going to write whatever, you know, deservingly about this game. We’ve got to make sure that we put the blinders on and focus on what we can control. That’s preparing for another division game next Sunday.”
Dak Prescott On What Happens Next
Prescott was 22-of-34 for 175 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception. Dallas scored on three of seven possessions and had two in the second half.
“One game. This is a long year. We’ve got to make sure we use it as a lesson and stick together,” Prescott said. “One of two things can happen. We can get better from it or we can allow it to derail us. And I know what I’m going to do. I know the leaders. I know what the message is going to be. And we’re definitely going to get better from it.”
Asked what area needs the most work, Prescott declined to name one.
“It’s just a team thing. It’s a team thing. We’ve got to go back and we’ve got to look at the film,” Prescott said. “Everybody’s going to want something back on all three phases, but I can’t answer that question at this moment. Ask me Thursday.”
Dak Prescott On Pressure And Expectations
Dallas entered the season with the roster largely intact on offense and rebuilt on defense. Prescott was asked whether the expectations added pressure.
“Yeah, I just think it’s that time. I think it just comes with age, maturity,” Prescott said. “Yeah, it’s not pressure. I’m blessed. I’m thankful to be out there, to have this opportunity to play this game, come out of this thing healthy and feel the way that I do and looking forward to preparing for next week.”
“There’s no pressure. This game is beautiful. It’s fun. Doing it with the guys that I love. I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” Prescott continued. “Being back out there, it was awesome. Obviously, unfortunately, we lost. And that sucks. It’s going to sting. It’s going to sting until, you know, Tuesday. And yeah, we’ll turn the page. We’ll put a good game plan together for Washington and bounce back.”
Prescott entered the night 14-3 as a starter against the Giants. Dallas hosts the Washington Commanders on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.
