FRISCO, Texas — CeeDee Lamb said Thursday that everything involving the Dallas Cowboys is an overreaction, win or lose, and that he knew it by his second season.
Dallas drafted Lamb in the first round in 2020 out of Oklahoma. The Cowboys opened this season 0-1 with a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13.
Lamb tries not to carry too much of an expectation into any week.
“I knew that my year two,” Lamb said. “Everything is an overreaction, like when it comes to the star. Everything that we do is going to be, again, we looked at it on a magnifying glass. It’s just make sure that you’re putting the best stuff out, because the camera is always on you no matter what is there.”
Lamb said some players cannot survive in Dallas because they cannot take the bad with the good.
“Yeah, I love it,” Lamb explained. “I mean, I love every moment to make me a better man, a better player. You feel what I’m saying? I challenge myself, so give me the toughest challenge. And I feel like obviously being here is definitely a tough challenge because, because yeah, when everything’s good, everything’s fire, but that’s everywhere. Right. But, and we get spoiled a little bit more, but when things go bad, you got to be able to take the good with the bad.”
“And I feel like some guys can’t take the bad with the good and that’s, that’s where they can’t survive,” Lamb continued. “But like, if you’re going to be here, you’re going to wear that star. If you’re going to be here celebrating with us on a win, you got to definitely be able to take them losses too.”
CeeDee Lamb On Handling Praise And Criticism
Staying level-headed is how Lamb deals with fans who are with him when he wins.
“They’re with you when you win,” Lamb said. “You’re going to hear about them when you lose. You feel what I’m saying? So like, I just feel like you just got to take the good with the bad. You can’t really have too much of an expectation. Just stay level headed. I mean, everybody going to blow smoke up here. When you, when you go for 200, go for 50, 40, you’re going to hear it a little bit. You feel what I’m saying? Just got to go out there again, next week, prepare, and be you.”
Lamb caught 5 passes for 44 yards and a touchdown against New York. He made the Pro Bowl last season.
Lamb does not expect 150 yards every week. Defenses have game plans, too.
“No, that’s just come with the position and the territory, to be honest,” Lamb said. “Every game you’re not, I mean, everybody want to go for 150 every single game, but realistically that’s not the truth. I mean, if they let you do that, then somebody got to get fired. You feel what I’m saying? They got to prepare. They got a game plan. They get paid, too, on the defensive end. You feel what I’m saying?”
“So just prepare for whatever, man,” Lamb noted. “You just gotta be, just gotta have an open mind to everything, being able to adjust. And I feel like the greatest ones do. And when they get to the game, whatever they throw at you, let’s see if you can swing.”
Dallas Cowboys Host Washington Commanders Sunday
The Washington Commanders are also 0-1 after a 24-22 loss at Philadelphia. Kickoff Sunday at AT&T Stadium is set for 3:25 p.m. CT on Fox.
