FRISCO, Texas — CeeDee Lamb said Thursday that the Arizona Cardinals have come out with more energy than the Dallas Cowboys every time he has played them. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer disagreed with his receiver Friday and pointed to turnovers instead.

Arizona has won eight of the last nine meetings, dating to 2008. The Cowboys’ only win in that stretch was a 28-17 decision in Glendale, Ariz., on Sept. 25, 2017. The Cardinals have also won four straight games at AT&T Stadium, in 2014, 2020, January 2022, and November 2025.

Lamb has never beaten Arizona. The Cardinals have won all four meetings since Dallas drafted him in the first round in 2020, and he said after Thursday’s practice that they have “punched us in the mouth every single time.”

“They’ve always had more energy just coming out in the game. They’re more excited regardless of if it was a 12 o’clock, Sunday night, Monday night,” Lamb said Thursday. “We played them in prime time. They beat us there.”

Brian Schottenheimer Counts Minus-11 Turnovers Against Arizona

Schottenheimer said energy has nothing to do with it. He did not avoid the series history with his team, either.

“I kind of hit it right between the eyes because that’s the way I believe you do it,” Schottenheimer said. “One and eight against them, going back to I think 2011. Four in a row at home, they’ve beaten the Cowboys. I’ll disagree with CeeDee a little bit. I know why. Minus-11 turnover differential in those games. Last year we were minus-3.”

“So the ball is what this game is going to come down to. I don’t think it’s got to do with energy. It’s a noon kickoff. Both teams are going to have to draw from it. We have the fans. But again, the ball, minus-11 or minus-3 last year, good luck,” Schottenheimer continued.

The last meeting was a 27-17 Arizona win on “Monday Night Football” on Nov. 3, 2025. Jacoby Brissett, then filling in as the Cardinals’ starter, completed 21-of-31 passes for 261 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for another score. Dak Prescott was sacked 5 times, and Dallas went 0-for-3 on fourth down.

Takeaways have been slow to come for the Dallas defense this season. Linebacker Dee Winters made its first interception of the year at Green Bay on Oct. 18, and DeMarvion Overshown intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter Monday in a 38-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles.

CeeDee Lamb Still Looking For His First Win Over The Cardinals

The four losses in Lamb’s career came by scores of 38-10 at AT&T Stadium in October 2020, 25-22 at AT&T Stadium in January 2022, 28-16 in Glendale in September 2023, and 27-17 last November.

Lamb caught 5 passes for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns on 12 targets in Philadelphia, giving him 7 touchdown catches this season. Dallas ran 38 times for 204 yards in that game, and Javonte Williams carried 25 times for a career-high 155 yards and a touchdown.

Brissett is still Arizona’s starter. He leads the NFL with 282 pass attempts, and the Cardinals (2-5) lost 30-16 to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Dallas is 3-4.

The Cowboys host the Cardinals on Sunday at AT&T Stadium. Kickoff is set for noon CT on FOX.
