FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys and tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford agreed Thursday to a three-year, $18 million contract extension that includes $12.075 million guaranteed, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported. His agent, Mike McCartney, announced the agreement on X earlier Thursday evening.
The extension keeps Spann-Ford under contract through the 2029 season. He is playing out the final year of the three-year, $2.85 million contract he signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent from Minnesota on April 30, 2024.
That deal included $245,000 in guaranteed money and pays him a $1.075 million base salary this season, according to Spotrac. He was on track to become a restricted free agent in March.
Brevyn Spann-Ford Has Played In All 34 Games Since 2024
A St. Cloud, Minn., native, Spann-Ford spent six seasons at Minnesota and caught 25 passes for 239 yards and 2 touchdowns in his final season in 2023. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.77 seconds at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine and went undrafted that April.
As a rookie, Spann-Ford made the Cowboys’ initial 53-man roster and played in all 17 games. He caught 9 passes for 88 yards that season. His 305 offensive snaps made up 26% of the team’s total.
On July 27, 2025, Spann-Ford rolled his ankle while blocking on a run play during the first padded practice of training camp in Oxnard, Calif. Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said the next day that he would likely miss a few weeks. He was back in time for Week 1.
Last season, Spann-Ford again appeared in all 17 games and made 5 starts. He caught 9 of 13 targets for 90 yards and 1 touchdown.
The touchdown came in Week 12, on a 4-yard pass from Dak Prescott in the third quarter of a 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles at AT&T Stadium. His longest catch, a 31-yard reception from Prescott, came on Christmas Day.
Spann-Ford played 114 special teams snaps as a rookie and 243 in 2025. He was credited with 20 tackles last season.
Brevyn Spann-Ford Opens 2026 Behind Jake Ferguson
When Dallas set its initial 53-man roster on Aug. 30, the Cowboys kept three tight ends: Jake Ferguson, Spann-Ford, and Luke Schoonmaker. Spann-Ford was listed behind Ferguson on the unofficial depth chart the team released during camp.
During an August appearance on “The Up & Adams Show,” Prescott said the chemistry he built with Spann-Ford in offseason throwing sessions in Dallas carried over to Oxnard.
“Great camp,” Prescott said. “He’s a guy that’s just done everything right since he’s been here. I give a lot of credit to the guys that show up every day in the offseason or the guys hitting me up, ‘Hey, when’s the next time you’re throwing?’ And Brev is the epitome of that. Anytime I had the ball this offseason in Dallas, Brev was there. He was ready to go. I think that just shows his mindset.
“It shows the mentality that he worked with this offseason,” Prescott continued. “Then, obviously, the chemistry we were able to create in that time has helped out here as well. He’s playing on fire, and he’s doing a hell of a job.”
Ferguson signed a four-year, $52 million extension during camp in Oxnard in July 2025. That contract runs through the 2029 season. In 2025, Ferguson caught 82 passes for 600 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Schoonmaker, a 2023 second-round pick out of Michigan, is in the final year of his rookie contract. He caught 14 passes for 132 yards last season. Schoonmaker played 391 offensive snaps that season, and Spann-Ford played 300.
The Cowboys open the regular season against the New York Giants on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. Kickoff is set for 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC.
