ARLINGTON, Texas — Dallas Wings rookie Azzi Fudd said her right knee is “great” ahead of Thursday’s home matchup against the Minnesota Lynx at College Park Center. Fudd was cleared to play after going through the Wings’ shootaround Thursday morning and is set to make her home debut at College Park Center.
“Yeah, the knee feels great. I’m excited to play tonight,” Fudd said at her pregame media availability.
Fudd, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, missed Tuesday’s 77-72 home opener loss to the Atlanta Dream after being downgraded from probable to out hours before tip-off. The right knee injury kept her on the bench through what would have been her first home game at College Park Center. She was listed as questionable on the Wings’ Thursday injury report before being cleared.
How Azzi Fudd Got From Tuesday’s Late Scratch to Thursday’s Clearance
Head coach Jose Fernandez framed Fudd’s Tuesday absence as a precautionary call rather than a response to a specific in-game setback. Fernandez declined to provide specifics on Fudd’s medical status, what she had or had not done in practice, or a timetable for her return.
“In the opening night, out of an abundance of caution and her long-term health, we’re keeping her out tonight,” Fernandez said before Tuesday’s game.
Fudd took her first on-court reps since the Atlanta absence at Wednesday’s practice, participating in the Wings’ walkthrough and getting shots up at College Park Center. Fernandez said Wednesday that her status for Thursday would depend on how she responded to shootaround and the team’s medical evaluation.
“She walked through today, and she shot. So we’ll see how tonight goes and how she gets through shootaround, and then see how she feels and what our medical staff says. So we’ll see,” Fernandez told Dallas Hoops Journal on Wednesday.
Fudd went through Thursday’s shootaround and was cleared to play.
Jose Fernandez Will Use Azzi Fudd as First Guard Off the Bench
Fernandez said at his pregame media availability that he plans to use Fudd as the first guard off the bench. He declined to put a minutes restriction in place.
“I’m looking forward to her being the first guard off the bench tonight. Again, making sure we find her in transition and then running some half-court options for her to get the basketball,” Fernandez said. “We’ll see how she feels when that first rotation comes up.”
Asked whether the Wings would limit Fudd’s minutes, Fernandez said the rotation would be governed by feel and flow.
“I think it’s going to be based on how she feels and how the flow of the game is going,” Fernandez said.
Azzi Fudd Made WNBA Debut at Indiana
Fudd made her WNBA debut Saturday in the Wings’ 107-104 road win over the Indiana Fever, scoring 3 points on her first WNBA 3-pointer in 18 minutes off the bench.
The former UConn guard was the top selection in the 2026 WNBA Draft after winning a national championship and joined Dallas as one of the franchise’s headline additions alongside reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers.
Dallas Wings Host Minnesota Lynx at College Park Center
The Wings (1-1) host the Lynx (1-1) at 7 p.m. CT on Prime. Minnesota comes in off an 88-84 road win over the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, with Kayla McBride and Natasha Howard each scoring 14 to lead the team. Napheesa Collier (left ankle) and Dorka Juhász (right foot) are out for Minnesota.
