San Francisco 49ers Shopping For Wide Receiver, Monitoring Tight Ends After Jauan Jennings Turned Down Return

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers are in the market for a wide receiver, and they have also been monitoring available tight ends, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday. The two reporters also identified the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers as teams in the wide receiver market.
San Francisco (6-1) hosts the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday on FOX. Wide receivers Mike Evans and Deebo Samuel are not expected to be available, general manager John Lynch said this week, and the team ruled out Evans with an Achilles injury Friday. Lynch said wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and KhaDarel Hodge should return to the lineup.
Jauan Jennings Turned Down Reunion With Kyle Shanahan
The 49ers already tried to add a receiver. FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reported Nov. 1 that San Francisco had trade terms worked out with the Minnesota Vikings for Jauan Jennings, contingent on Jennings agreeing during a FaceTime call with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan and Lynch. Jennings chose to stay in Minnesota.
Jennings told Shanahan on that call that he was happy with the Vikings, and Shanahan confirmed the conversation this week.
“When we got on FaceTime with JJ, it went well,” Shanahan said. “He ended up saying he was happy with where he was. When I heard how he talked, I agreed with him.”
Jennings spent five seasons in San Francisco and caught 210 passes for 2,581 yards and 22 touchdowns, including a career-high 77 catches for 975 yards in 2024. He signed a one-year deal worth up to $13 million with Minnesota this offseason and has 4 catches for 43 yards this season. San Francisco did complete a trade with the Indianapolis Colts last month, reacquiring defensive tackle DeForest Buckner for a 2027 fourth-round pick.
Mike Evans Out Again As Brandon Aiyuk Files For Reinstatement
Evans signed with San Francisco in free agency this offseason. He fractured ribs in a Sept. 27 win over the Arizona Cardinals and missed the Oct. 25 game at Atlanta with Achilles and rib injuries before the bye.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk recently filed for reinstatement and planned to report to the team Friday. Shanahan first spoke about moving on from Aiyuk two months ago.
“I have no expectations,” Shanahan explained. “I’ve moved on with that mentally. Talked two months ago about that and it hasn’t changed with me.”
Lynch said the team is working with the NFL Management Council on the situation and could share more next week. The trade deadline is 3 p.m. CT Tuesday.
