FRISCO, Texas — Tyler Guyton changed his diet, worked out harder, and did prehab instead of rehab this offseason.
“Honestly, best. I feel good. I’m supported by so many good people, and I have so much love around me that I just can’t be more thankful to go into this season with health and to finally compete at training camp,” Guyton said.
Dallas took Guyton 29th overall in 2024 out of Oklahoma. He has 21 starts in 25 career games. He missed time in each of his first two seasons and went on injured reserve last December, and Tyler Smith started the final three games of the season at left tackle in his place.
Guyton played right tackle at Oklahoma. He moved to the left side as a rookie and was learning the NFL and a new position at the same time.

Guyton is entering his third season. He said the confidence he carries now was built through repetition and practice, and that he had to go through some losses to get it.
“I feel like I’m in a different spot. I think that everybody in here is in a different spot,” Guyton explained. “Every time you go into a new season, you have so much time to dot your I’s and cross your T’s that you should be able to do everything that you need to do in the span of the offseason. So it’s a different spot for sure.”
Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer named Guyton the starting left tackle after four padded practices in Oxnard, California. Dallas traded Nathan Thomas to the Houston Texans a day after acquiring Broderick Jones. Rookie Drew Shelton is behind Guyton on the depth chart.
Schottenheimer said on Aug. 28 that Guyton’s play at left tackle was the reason Smith never took a rep at tackle outside of walk-throughs this summer.
How The Dallas Cowboys Line Around Tyler Guyton Has Changed
Guyton will open the season without Smith next to him for the first time in three years. Smith has surgery on his left thumb Tuesday morning and is headed for injured reserve with a designation to return. Schottenheimer put the recovery at four to six weeks. T.J. Bass steps in at left guard.
Guyton called Smith one of those once-in-a-generational players on Monday and said he has never seen another player do what Smith does.
Terence Steele and Jones are competing at right tackle. Schottenheimer said Monday that Steele is the starting right tackle right now and that the competition will be ongoing. Cooper Beebe and Tyler Booker are on the interior with Bass. Dallas carried eight offensive linemen out of camp.
The line Guyton anchors finished second in the NFL in total offense last season at 391.9 yards per game. Dallas finished in the top 10 in both rushing and passing for the first time since 2021.
Dallas set its initial 53-man roster on Aug. 30 with 24 players on offense, 26 on defense, and 3 specialists. The Cowboys finished 7-9-1 and have missed the playoffs two years running.
