DALLAS — Kyle Capobianco will miss about four weeks with a lower-body injury, Dallas Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Thursday. Dallas recalled defenseman Trey Taylor from the AHL’s Texas Stars in a corresponding move, and Taylor made his NHL debut that night in a 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Capobianco was hurt early in the third period of Tuesday’s 5-1 home loss to the New Jersey Devils. He went down after a collision behind the Dallas net with Timo Meier and limped off the ice. He did not return, and Gulutzan did not have an update on him after that game.

Before Thursday’s game at American Airlines Center, Gulutzan still did not have an exact timeline for the 29-year-old.

“‘Capo’ will be out for a little bit here,” Gulutzan said. “A significant chunk of time. … I don’t know right now, but I would say probably we’re at the four-week point today.”

Four weeks from Thursday falls on Nov. 26. Dallas hosts the Nashville Predators on Nov. 25 and plays at the St. Louis Blues on Nov. 27.

Kyle Capobianco Joins A Crowded Injury List

Capobianco has appeared in 5 games this season with no points, 4 penalty minutes, 3 blocked shots, and 2 hits. Over his career, he has 7 goals, 10 assists, and 17 points in 112 regular-season games with the Arizona Coyotes, Winnipeg Jets, and Stars.

Dallas already played without Esa Lindell, who is out again with a lower-body injury. With both defensemen sidelined, the Stars needed a recall to dress six healthy defensemen against Montreal.

Radek Faksa is sidelined with an upper-body injury. Matt Duchene is expected to miss about three months after surgery to repair a core injury, and Oskar Back is on long-term injured reserve with a finger injury.

One player came back Thursday. Sam Steel returned after missing two games with an undisclosed injury.

Trey Taylor Gets His First NHL Game

Taylor is in his second full AHL season with Texas. He had 3 assists in 8 games there this season after finishing last season with 8 goals, 18 assists, and 26 points in 70 games.

Before turning pro, Taylor played at Clarkson University. He was named ECAC Hockey’s top defenseman in back-to-back seasons and earned Second-Team All-American honors after a 2024-25 season in which he had 9 goals and 20 assists.

In his debut against Montreal, Taylor was credited with 1 hit and 1 missed shot. The Canadiens scored twice in 27 seconds late in the first period and pulled away behind 2 goals each from Cole Caufield and Alex Newhook.

Dallas has lost two straight and is 7-5-1. The Stars close their six-game homestand Saturday against the Columbus Blue Jackets at American Airlines Center, with puck drop set for 7 p.m. CT on Prime Video.
