EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Dallas Cowboys safety Malik Hooker may have fractured his forearm and linebacker DeMarvion Overshown has a hamstring injury, Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said after Sunday night’s 28-20 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium.
“It looks like from the x-rays here that Hook may have fractured his forearm,” Schottenheimer said. “We’ll get more information, more testing tomorrow. DeMo’s got a hamstring. We’re not sure the severity of it yet.”
Hooker started at safety and left during the final minute of the third quarter, on a Jaxson Dart scramble that gained 2 yards. He finished with 1 tackle.
Overshown went down with 12:04 left in the fourth quarter, on a Cam Skattebo run that Dallas cornerback Cobie Durant ended by forcing a fumble the Giants recovered. Overshown finished with 7 combined tackles, tied for fourth on the Dallas defense.

Hooker has played for Dallas since 2021 and entered the season with 413 career tackles and 14 interceptions across nine years. The Cowboys left the safety job alongside him unsettled through the week before the opener.
P.J. Locke took snaps behind him Sunday and finished with 2 combined tackles. Rookie Caleb Downs started in the slot and Juanyeh Thompson started at the other safety spot, finishing with 9 combined tackles, second on the team.

Overshown drew an unnecessary roughness penalty in the first quarter for hitting Dart out of bounds, a 15-yard flag that moved New York to the Dallas 22 on the game’s opening touchdown drive. He was one of four Dallas linebackers to record defensive snaps.
New York gained 165 rushing yards on 37 carries and converted 9 of 11 third downs. The Giants held the ball for 36:40 and punted once.

Schottenheimer said additional testing was scheduled for Monday and did not put a timeline on either player.
