DALLAS — Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones described wide receiver Ryan Flournoy and tight end Brevyn Spann-Ford as homegrown Friday, a day after Dallas agreed to contract extensions with both. Jones made the comments on the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan.
Spann-Ford agreed Thursday to a three-year, $18 million extension that runs through 2029. The deal includes $12.075 million guaranteed.
Later Thursday night, Flournoy agreed to a one-year extension worth up to $6 million. Both players had been on track for restricted free agency in March.
Jones said Dallas expects first- and second-round picks to hold a roster spot, and that it is different when players from further down the draft earn one.
“Both of those guys are what I would call homegrown,” Jones said. “And both of them have made their way since they’ve been on the Dallas Cowboy team. You say, isn’t that the way it’s always supposed to be? No. You expect first-round picks, second-round picks to make some weight. It’s not an exception when they have a roster spot. But, boy, when you take those guys that come in down the line and they have earned it, and they’ve earned it not just during the fall this year but they’ve earned it with their overall play over the last couple of years, then that’s an exciting time for us.”
“And both of those players, one at tight end, the other at receiver, can make a serious difference for us,” Jones continued. “They are physically able to do it. They’ve paid their dues. They’ve been out there now going on three years and four years. And they’ve always had the talent. They have exceptional ways to play the game with their skills. And I’m excited for both those guys. That’s why we extended them.”
Ryan Flournoy’s Path To The Dallas Cowboys’ No. 3 Receiver Job
Dallas drafted Flournoy in the sixth round in 2024, 216th overall, out of Southeast Missouri State. He caught 10 passes for 102 yards in 11 games as a rookie.
The Cowboys waived him during cutdowns last August. He cleared waivers, re-signed to the practice squad, and was back on the 53-man roster in September.
Last season, Flournoy caught 40 passes for 475 yards and 4 touchdowns in 16 games, with 4 starts. He had 6 catches for 114 yards against the Jets and 9 catches for 115 yards and 1 touchdown at Detroit.
Flournoy is playing on a two-year, $2.035 million contract he signed in September 2025.
George Pickens is playing 2026 on a one-year, $27.3 million franchise tag. The July 15 deadline for tagged players to sign long-term deals passed without an agreement. CeeDee Lamb and Pickens start at receiver.
Brevyn Spann-Ford Behind Jake Ferguson At Dallas Cowboys Tight End
Spann-Ford signed with Dallas as an undrafted free agent out of Minnesota in 2024. He has 18 catches for 178 yards and 1 touchdown in 34 career games.
All 5 of his starts came last season, when he caught 9 passes for 90 yards and 1 touchdown in 17 games. He is earning a $1.075 million base salary this season.
Jake Ferguson is the starter at tight end. Ferguson caught 82 passes last season and made his second Pro Bowl. Dallas restructured his contract last week.
