ARLINGTON, Texas — Jacob deGrom threw a bullpen session Tuesday. The Texas Rangers will give him at least one more extra day of rest before deciding whether he makes his next start, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Texas had not settled on a starter for Wednesday’s game against the Washington Nationals, manager Skip Schumaker said. deGrom could take the ball Thursday in the series finale.
“It went well,” Schumaker said of deGrom’s Tuesday bullpen session. “I just don’t want to give any false impressions. And then we’ll go from there.”
Jacob deGrom Left Angels Start With Triceps Fatigue
deGrom last pitched Aug. 13 against the Los Angeles Angels and came out after two innings with what the club described as right triceps fatigue. He allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs, walked 1 and struck out 3, and he threw 53 pitches before the Rangers went to the bullpen in a 7-0 loss.
Five days earlier he had beaten the Baltimore Orioles at Globe Life Field, working 5 innings and giving up 3 hits and 1 earned run with 9 strikeouts.
The Rangers were off Monday, which put his normal start day on Wednesday.
deGrom is 8-8 with a 3.95 ERA through 23 starts. He has 147 strikeouts in 120 2/3 innings.

The 38-year-old right-hander is in his 13th major league season and has 1,998 career strikeouts. He is 104-73 with a 2.67 ERA in 271 starts between the New York Mets and Texas.
deGrom won the National League Cy Young Award in 2018 and again in 2019. He was the league’s Rookie of the Year in 2014 and has made five All-Star teams, most recently last season.
Since the Rangers signed him ahead of the 2023 season, deGrom has gone 22-16 with a 3.26 ERA across 62 starts. He is signed through 2027 on a five-year, $185 million contract that includes a mutual option for 2028, and he is making $38 million this year.
Rangers Rotation Thin With Nathan Eovaldi, Jack Leiter Out
Nathan Eovaldi went on the 15-day injured list with right posterior elbow inflammation, retroactive to Aug. 9. He rejoined the club in Anaheim last week. Texas has not set a return date.
Jack Leiter makes his second rehab start Thursday for Double-A Frisco as he works back from right ankle surgery. Leiter and Josh Jung both gave updates on their rehab work Tuesday.
Texas entered Tuesday at 61-64. The Houston Astros lead the American League West by two games.
The Rangers and Nationals play again Wednesday at Globe Life Field. First pitch is 7:05 p.m. CT on Rangers Sports Network.
