FRISCO, Texas — George Pickens has 9 catches for 68 yards and no touchdowns through two games, and Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said Monday at The Star that he has no questions about the receiver heading into Sunday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Pickens caught 6 of 8 targets for 40 yards in Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders. CeeDee Lamb had 8 catches for 153 yards and 2 touchdowns on 9 targets. In the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants in the opener, Pickens caught 3 of 6 targets for 28 yards and had drops.
Pickens did not have explosive catches Sunday, Schottenheimer said, but he draws a lot of attention. A few of his catches came in big situations, including a third-and-1.
“I’ll, of course, want to get him and CeeDee the ball. I think CeeDee’s playing great. I think George is playing really well. I mean, some of the catches he made yesterday were really big-time plays in big-time situations for us. Third-and-1, he catches the over route, gets smacked, catches a slant early,” Schottenheimer said. “He just didn’t have the highlight-type catches and the explosive catches and things like that. But he draws a lot of attention out there. But believe me, we’re looking for ways to continue to get those guys the ball.”
“If you look at George last year, he didn’t really take off until a couple games in. And the rest, as they know, is history, how well he played,” Schottenheimer continued. “So I have no questions about him and his readiness, and he’ll be ready to go this week.”
Pickens drew a 15-yard personal foul on a helmet-to-helmet hit as he made a catch over the middle in the second half Sunday.
George Pickens Took A Few Games To Get Going In 2025
Pickens ranked third in the NFL with 1,429 receiving yards in 2025, his first season in Dallas after three with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He made the Pro Bowl and was a second-team All-Pro. He caught 5 passes for 68 yards and 1 touchdown against the Giants in Week 2 last season and had 8 catches for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Green Bay Packers in Week 4.
Dallas placed the franchise tag on Pickens in the offseason, and he is playing on it this season. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Sept. 8 that Pickens had “a top camp.”
Brian Schottenheimer On Dak Prescott’s Accuracy Against Washington
Dak Prescott completed 26-of-31 passes for 279 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no interceptions Sunday. His 249th career touchdown pass, a 24-yard throw to Lamb in the fourth quarter, set the Cowboys record. Lamb and tight end Jake Ferguson each caught 2 touchdowns.
Prescott’s legs helped Dallas on Sunday, Schottenheimer said. He also took some shots early.
“I thought he played really well. Not surprising the numbers are what they are. I think five incompletions maybe, I think that’s what it was,” Schottenheimer said. “Took some shots early, moved around actually pretty well, and got some plays for us with his legs, which were great. But I thought overall, I thought the accuracy was really, really good. And the decision-making, I thought, was top flight.”
Lamb also took Washington’s decision to defer personally before catching a 3-yard touchdown on the opening drive. Dallas plays Baltimore on Sunday at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Kickoff is 3:25 p.m. CT.
