WASHINGTON — The Dallas Wings have no players on their game status report for Friday’s game at the Washington Mystics. Tip-off is 6:30 p.m. CT at CareFirst Arena.

That marks a clean report for a team that spent most of the season carrying at least one designation. Alanna Smith went into Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Dream listed as probable with a right leg injury and was upgraded to available before tip-off. Friday’s report drops the designation altogether.

Smith has appeared in 20 of Dallas’ 27 games this season, with seven starts. She averages 3.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 14.2 minutes, shooting 38.5% from the field and 20.0% from three-point range. She spent time in the league’s concussion protocol earlier in the year.

Before Wednesday’s game in Arlington, Wings coach Jose Fernandez laid out where she sat in the rotation.

“We’ll see how she feels tonight and what kind of minutes she can handle,” Fernandez said. “We’ve been without her for a while, and we’ve leaned heavily on Li Yueru, Maddy Siegrist, Awak Kuier, Jessica Shepard, and Alysha Clark in the frontcourt. She’s not just going to step back in as the first post player off the bench tonight. It’s going to take more than two practices after the All-Star break for her to get fully back into rhythm.”

Basketball Australia named Smith to the final 12 players selected for the FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin from Sept. 4-13.

What Dallas Brings to Washington

The Wings arrive at 18-10 after an 82-81 home loss to Atlanta on Wednesday night. Dallas led by as many as 15 before the Dream scored 30 points in the fourth quarter.

Arike Ogunbowale led Dallas with 24 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and a season-high 4 steals. She’s the only player in the WNBA this season to hit all four of those marks in the same game. Her run of three straight games with at least 24 points and 5 assists is tied for the longest in the league this season, active or broken.

Azzi Fudd scored 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting and passed 350 career points in the process. In 27 career games, the rookie became the fastest player in Wings history to reach at least 350 points and 50 three-point field goals. Fudd won the WNBA 3-Point Contest in Chicago on July 24.

Jessica Shepard finished with 16 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for her league-best 19th double-double of the season. It was her eighth straight, the longest double-double streak in franchise history. Paige Bueckers added 16 points and 6 assists, her 19th game this season with at least 10 points and 5 assists, third-most in the WNBA.

Dallas held Atlanta to 1-of-16 shooting from three-point range, or 6.2%. No Wings opponent had made one or fewer threes since Sept. 18, 2016. Two teams leaguewide have been held to one or fewer this season.

The Wings starters scored 80 of the team’s 81 points.

The Season Series

Dallas is 1-0 against Washington this year after a 92-69 win in the first meeting on May 18 in Texas. The Mystics lead the all-time series 44-42.

The Wings haven’t won in Washington since Aug. 30, 2023, and have lost the last three regular season meetings there. The two teams play again at CareFirst Arena on Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Washington’s Side

The Mystics come in at 15-12 on a three-game winning streak. They beat the Connecticut Sun 92-84 at home Tuesday night.

Sonia Citron scored 22 points in that game and Kiki Iriafen added 20. Shakira Austin had 17 points to lead Washington in the win. Both Citron and Iriafen were first-round picks in the 2025 draft, taken third overall and fourth overall by the Mystics.
