FRISCO, Texas — Ten quarterbacks released around the NFL this week were still free agents Wednesday morning, Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported. The Dallas Cowboys have two open standard practice squad spots and want a quarterback in one of them.
Coach Brian Schottenheimer said Tuesday that Dallas would add a quarterback to the practice squad if Joe Milton III were claimed or chose to sign somewhere else. Milton cleared waivers Tuesday afternoon and is a free agent.
Dallas signed offensive tackle Wanya Morris and defensive tackle Elijah Garcia on Tuesday. Teams may carry 16 players on the standard practice squad, and defensive lineman Adedayo Odeleye holds an International Player Pathway exemption that gives the Cowboys a 17th.
The Quarterbacks Still On The Market
Harris listed Will Levis, Austin Reed, Miller Moss, Jacob Clark, Mark Gronowski, Cam Miller, Hunter Dekkers, Max Brosmer, Adrian Martinez, and Connor Bazelak.
The Tennessee Titans waived Levis on Aug. 30, and he went unclaimed. Tennessee moved up to No. 33 in the 2023 draft to take him out of Kentucky. Levis then started 21 games over his first two seasons and went 5-16. He completed 339 of 556 passes for 3,899 yards with 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions over those two years. Shoulder surgery cost him all of 2025. In three preseason games this August, Levis went 21 of 39 for 200 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions, and he was sacked 4 times.
The Baltimore Ravens waived Reed on Sunday. Reed signed with the Dallas Renegades of the United Football League on Jan. 12 and won the Week 1 starting job in March. He came into the league as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2024 out of Western Kentucky.
Chicago waived Moss, who went undrafted in 2026. Over nine starts at USC in 2024, Moss threw for 2,555 yards with 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He transferred to Louisville for the 2025 season.
The Las Vegas Raiders waived Clark, an undrafted rookie out of Missouri State. Clark was a Walter Payton Award finalist in 2024 and finished 14th in the voting. He went 1 of 2 for 18 yards in his only preseason appearance.
Gronowski was waived by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, signed to their practice squad on Monday, and released from it Tuesday. Miami had signed him as an undrafted free agent on May 8. Gronowski started 67 of the 68 games he played at South Dakota State and Iowa, completing 921 of 1,450 passes for 12,049 yards with 103 touchdowns and 27 interceptions, and he ran 515 times for 2,312 yards and 53 touchdowns. He won two FCS national championships at South Dakota State and the 2023 Walter Payton Award.
Miami also waived Cam Miller on Sunday. Las Vegas had taken him 215th overall in the sixth round of the 2025 draft out of North Dakota State. Cam Miller spent his rookie season on the Raiders’ practice squad before Miami signed him away on Jan. 1. Cam Miller still has not played in a regular-season game. In three preseason appearances, he completed 16 of 38 passes for 170 yards with 2 interceptions and no touchdowns.
The New Orleans Saints waived Dekkers on Sunday. New Orleans signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2025 out of Iowa State and Iowa Western Community College, kept him on the practice squad, and placed him on practice squad injured reserve that September. Dekkers re-signed with the Saints on June 17 and has not appeared in a regular-season game.
The San Francisco 49ers waived Martinez on Aug. 29 after settling on Kurtis Rourke as the third quarterback. Martinez has appeared in one career NFL game, with 1 rushing attempt for minus-1 yard. He was the UFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2024 and the championship game MVP with the Birmingham Stallions. The 49ers brought him back on a futures contract Jan. 20.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived Bazelak. Tampa Bay elevated him from the practice squad Oct. 25, 2025, returned him there three days later, then signed him to the active roster Nov. 29. He went undrafted in 2025 out of Bowling Green after earlier stops at Missouri and Indiana.
The Minnesota Vikings waived Brosmer on Monday and re-signed him to their practice squad on Tuesday after he cleared waivers, Tom Pelissero of The Ringer reported. Brosmer appeared in seven games with two starts as an undrafted rookie in 2025, completing 47 of 71 passes for 328 yards with no touchdowns and 4 interceptions.
Joe Milton III’s Waiver Status And Preseason
Dallas waived Milton on Monday as the corresponding move for its waiver claim of running back Emari Demercado from the Kansas City Chiefs. Claims were due at 3 p.m. CT Tuesday, and none came in on Milton or on the two years left on his rookie contract.
Milton finished the preseason 29 of 43 for 378 yards, throwing 3 touchdowns without an interception. He also ran 12 times for 14 yards and scored once. Milton got the start in Dallas’ second and third preseason games after Sam Howell started the opener at Seattle.
Dak Prescott and Howell are the two quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. Howell signed with Dallas on March 10 on a one-year deal worth $2.5 million guaranteed, with a $2 million base salary. His 18 career starts all came for the Washington Commanders in 2022 and 2023. Across 20 NFL games, Howell has thrown for 4,139 yards and 22 touchdowns.
Dallas begins the regular season Sept. 13 on the road against the New York Giants. The game starts at 7:20 p.m. CT at MetLife Stadium and will air on NBC.
