‘Words Are Cheap’: Dak Prescott Says Consistency, Not Speeches, Sets The Tone In Dallas Cowboys Locker Room

FRISCO, Texas — Dak Prescott said Thursday that the most important thing he can do for the Dallas Cowboys locker room at 3-5 is be consistent, because words are cheap.
Dallas is coming off a 33-30 overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals, a game it led 17-3 late in the third quarter. Prescott’s answer on morale started and ended with how he carries himself.
“Be consistent and show that more than anything. Words are cheap. Words are cheap, so it’s about, to me, about the attitude that you walk in here with, the gratefulness that you have to be able to go to work and to be able to grind,” Prescott said. “And when things are hard, hell yeah, it’s fun. Life’s hard. If it was easy, I wouldn’t want to do it, to be honest with you. And so for me, it’s about walking the right walk and making sure guys can see that.”
Dak Prescott On Stopping A Teammate From Dwelling
Prescott is in his 11th season and finished second in NFL MVP voting in 2023. Dallas has lost two of its last three games.
“If I see somebody noticeably dwelling or, I’m cursing a lot today, want to cut one, be upset about something, just stopping that there and not letting that get further than it needs to be, and maybe even giving them their moment of that negativity,” Prescott explained. “Trust me, I have it myself, but it doesn’t last long, and it’s about just answering the bell.”
Von Miller Says Work Is The Only Thing That Speaks
Outside linebacker Von Miller said almost the same thing Wednesday. He called words “kind of hollow” for a team in Dallas’ spot.
“At this point where we are right now, words are kind of hollow. I wish it was a rah-rah speech or situation to reference every single time, but it’s not,” Miller said. “Really what speaks loudest is coming to work every day, fixing what we need to get fixed. Like, work is the only thing that speaks right now.”
Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who leads the NFL with 92 targets, also spoke to reporters Thursday.
“At this point on, you got to kind of look yourself, not kind of, you got to look yourself in the mirror, hold yourself accountable, and then at the end of the day, just be selfless, man,” Lamb said. “Don’t even be… don’t do it for yourself. Do it for your teammates. And that’s kind of the mindset that I’m going with.”
The Cowboys practiced Thursday at The Star before Sunday’s trip to Indianapolis.
“More importantly, it’s about finding solutions to it, and frustration don’t get you anywhere. So it’s about coming in, as I said, us game plan, and then going out there,” Prescott said. “And more importantly, it’s about Sunday, and it’s about continuing the things that we’ve talked about or that we’ve planned all week and making sure that we stick to that.”
The Cowboys visit the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. Kickoff at Lucas Oil Stadium is set for noon CT on FOX.
