Dak Prescott Says Dallas Cowboys Defense Meetings Sound Like A Road Game

OXNARD, Calif. — Dak Prescott said the Dallas Cowboys defense has been loud enough during install meetings that the offense next door felt like it was working on the road.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker holds his install meetings loud on purpose. Parker said Wednesday he tries to simulate being on the field. Walk in during one, he said, and you might think something is wrong.

Prescott’s offense meets next door. He said the defense turned its own calls into something like a game show.

“There was a day the other day, we’re in the offensive meeting, they’re in the defensive meeting. Not that we were struggling to hear what we were saying, but they were over there communicating and I don’t know, I think it was a Jeopardy game within their own defensive calls,” Prescott said. “It felt like playing on the road as we were just trying to install our meeting because of how loud and intense and fun that they were having just doing their job… Nothing but good things to say about that unit.”

The Dallas Cowboys Defense Christian Parker Is Rebuilding

Dallas hired Parker on Jan. 22. At 34, he is the youngest defensive coordinator in franchise history, and this is his first job running a defense. He arrived from Philadelphia, where he spent two seasons as defensive pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach and won Super Bowl LIX.

The Cowboys allowed 511 points last season, the most in the NFL. The defense finished 30th in total yards allowed and 31st in yards per play. Dallas recorded 35 sacks, tied for seventh-fewest in the league.

Parker inherited a rebuilt roster. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was a first-team All-Pro selection. Dallas spent five of its seven 2026 draft picks on defense, including safety Caleb Downs at No. 11 overall.

What Dak Prescott Has Seen From the Defense in Practice

Prescott was asked which defender had caught his eye through the first few practices. He said the intensity runs across all three levels. The celebrations after plays are what carry it to the rest of the team.

“I don’t know if I could say just one player because of the intensity,” Prescott said. “I think it might be the guy on the right, then the backers are just as crazy or excited backing him up, and then they’re making plays for the DBs, and so the DBs are screaming because they feel like locked us down… It’s just the collab effort of their intensity and their communication is felt, it’s definitely felt when we’re out there…”

Parker has also built a reputation for going back and forth with the offense from the sideline. Prescott said in June that he talks trash himself and enjoys the exchange.

Prescott said he can’t say enough about the pride Parker carries in the job. Parker doesn’t coach like a bystander.

“The men that we have and the way that we approach and attack their job, I can’t talk about CP enough and the pride that he carries with his job…” Prescott said. “He can’t be out there making the plays, but there’s not one ounce of him that doesn’t think he’s making plays. And he is.”

Camp in Oxnard runs through Aug. 18. Dallas opens the preseason at the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT on NFL Network.
