OXNARD, Calif. — Tyler Guyton left Tuesday’s joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams for a few plays after taking a hit to his elbow. The Dallas Cowboys left tackle returned shortly afterward.
Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said it was the same elbow that has bothered Guyton before. He missed two or three snaps and did not need to be looked at by trainers before going back in.
“Yeah, he just got banged on the elbow,” Schottenheimer said. “He was fine. Same elbow. He just got banged. And it really wasn’t him. I took him out.”
Guyton finished the practice and remained with the first-team offensive line Thursday.
Tyler Guyton Has Missed Time Before
Tuesday’s work in Woodland Hills was Dallas’ first joint practice of camp. Guyton took his usual first-team reps until Schottenheimer pulled him late in the session.
He has appeared in 25 games over his first two NFL seasons, starting 21 of them.
As a rookie, Guyton started 11 of 15 games. He was flagged 18 times, with 14 of those penalties accepted. That was the third-most in the NFL that season. Last year, the total dropped to 7.
Guyton dealt with a few different injuries in 2025. He hurt a knee during training camp, which opened first-team snaps for Nate Thomas, and later missed the Week 5 loss to the New York Jets while in concussion protocol.
A high ankle sprain ended his season in November. Guyton was hurt during Dallas’ Nov. 23 win over the Philadelphia Eagles and did not play again.
The Cowboys placed him on injured reserve Dec. 24. He was activated Feb. 15 after starting all 10 games he played that season.
Thomas made the first four starts of his NFL career during the year. Tyler Smith moved from left guard to left tackle for the final four games after Guyton went on injured reserve.

Dallas drafted Guyton 29th overall in 2024 after moving down five spots in the first round.
The Cowboys sent No. 24 and a 2025 seventh-round pick to Detroit for Nos. 29 and 73. Guyton came off the board first, and Dallas used No. 73 on Cooper Beebe.
Guyton had played mostly right tackle at Oklahoma after beginning his college career at TCU. Dallas moved him to the left side after Tyron Smith left in free agency.
Schottenheimer opened camp with Guyton and Thomas competing for the starting job. Guyton has stayed with the first unit throughout the Oxnard portion of camp.
After Thursday’s practice, Jerry Jones mentioned Guyton when he was asked which players had surprised him.
“Yeah, I like, and of course we’re talking about defense, but I really like Guyton,” Jones said. “Guyton is really, I think, at the level of competition that we’d hoped for with him, and that’s plus. That’s plus.”
Dallas has not said how much its established starters will play Saturday against the Seattle Seahawks.
The Cowboys practice Friday at 1:45 p.m. CT before traveling to Seattle. Saturday’s game starts at 7 p.m. CT at Lumen Field on CBS.
Dallas will return to Oxnard after the game. The California portion of camp ends Aug. 18 with a joint practice against the New Orleans Saints.
