FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys selected Miami cornerback Romanas Frederique Jr. with the No. 19 overall pick in a 2027 NFL first-round mock draft published Monday by CBS Sports draft analyst Josh Edwards.
Edwards built the draft order from FanDuel Sportsbook’s Super Bowl odds, in reverse, as of Friday afternoon. His first round included five quarterbacks. Texas quarterback Arch Manning went first overall to the Miami Dolphins. The 2027 NFL Draft runs April 29 through May 1 at the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
CBS Sports lists Frederique, who goes by “OJ,” at 6-foot and 195 pounds. He ranks 42nd among all prospects and fifth among cornerbacks on the outlet’s board. In his write-up, Edwards tied the pick to the continued rebuild of the Dallas defense. He pointed to the Cowboys’ first-round selections of safety Caleb Downs and edge rusher Malachi Lawrence in April. He also cited the trade for defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and the addition of linebacker Jaishawn Barham.
Romanas Frederique Jr. Hurt in Miami’s 2026 Opener
Frederique played two snaps in Miami’s 45-6 win at Stanford on Sept. 4. He left with a left shoulder injury after making an open-field tackle on the Cardinal’s opening drive and did not return.
Hurricanes coach Mario Cristobal gave no timetable at his Sept. 7 news conference. Cristobal said sophomore cornerback Ja’Boree Antoine, who was ruled out before the opener, is expected back in the latter part of the season.
“OJ suffered a pretty significant injury so he will be down for quite a while,” Cristobal said.
Frederique is a Deerfield Beach, Florida, native who played at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale. He flipped his commitment from West Virginia to Miami. As a freshman in 2024, he appeared in all 13 games with seven starts and made 30 tackles, 1 interception, and 7 pass breakups. The Football Writers Association of America named him a Freshman All-American.
Last season, Frederique appeared in 11 games with nine starts and finished with 19 tackles and 7 pass breakups. He missed the final four games of the regular season with an injury before returning for Miami’s College Football Playoff run. He made 4 tackles in the Hurricanes’ Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic win over Ohio State on Dec. 31 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
How The Cowboys Hold One 2027 First-Round Pick
Dallas acquired the Green Bay Packers‘ 2026 and 2027 first-round picks, along with defensive tackle Kenny Clark, when it traded Micah Parsons to Green Bay in August 2025. On Nov. 4, 2025, the Cowboys sent a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Mazi Smith to the New York Jets for Williams.
The Jets receive the higher of the Cowboys’ two 2027 first-round picks. Edwards has Green Bay’s pick landing at No. 18, one spot ahead of Dallas, which sends it to New York. In the mock, the Jets used that selection on a defensive lineman to replace Williams.
In April, the Cowboys traded No. 12 and two fifth-round picks to Miami to move up one spot and take Downs at No. 11. Dallas then moved from Green Bay’s No. 20 pick down to No. 23 in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, picked up two fourth-round picks, and took Lawrence. Barham went No. 92 overall in the third round with a pick acquired from the San Francisco 49ers.
The Cowboys opened the season with a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13 at MetLife Stadium. Dallas hosts the Washington Commanders on Sunday at AT&T Stadium, with kickoff set for 3:25 p.m. CT on FOX.
