Cobie Durant Begins On-Field Rehab, P.J. Locke Out Of Walking Boot As Dallas Cowboys Prepare For Baltimore Ravens

FRISCO, Texas — Cobie Durant will start on-field rehab Wednesday for the hamstring he strained against Washington, Dallas Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer said at The Star. Safety P.J. Locke is out of his walking boot and progressing from a torn plantar fascia in his foot.

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown is “making good progress” with his own hamstring strain, Schottenheimer said. He also said there is a “low probability” Overshown plays Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Cobie Durant And P.J. Locke Hurt In Win Over Washington

Both defensive backs got hurt in Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Washington Commanders at AT&T Stadium. Locke went down on a third down during Washington’s opening drive and walked off before he was taken to the locker room. In the final sequence of the first half, with the Commanders driving near the Dallas goal line, Durant injured his hamstring. Markquese Bell took Locke’s snaps, and second-year cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. replaced Durant.

Schottenheimer gave both diagnoses on Monday and said each player could miss a few weeks. At that point, Dallas had not decided whether to place Locke on injured reserve, which would keep him out at least four games. His tear is a complete one rather than a partial tear.

“That is correct,” Schottenheimer said. “You and I are both learning about doctor stuff. But yeah, they say it’s better. It’s pretty sore for a week. And then it begins to heal much quicker when you tear it fully.”

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan he does not expect Locke or Durant to go on injured reserve, Cowboys On SI reported.

Durant signed with Dallas this offseason after four seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, where he had 141 tackles, 7 interceptions, 26 passes defensed, and 2 defensive touchdowns. Locke signed with Dallas in free agency after his time with the Denver Broncos and was starting at safety with Malik Hooker out.

DeMarvion Overshown Unlikely For Baltimore Ravens In Rio

Overshown strained his hamstring in the 28-20 loss to the New York Giants on Sept. 13 after making 7 tackles. The next day, Schottenheimer said he would miss one to two weeks. Hooker fractured his forearm in the same game and had surgery two days later, and both were inactive against Washington.

Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham started in Overshown’s place Sunday and wore the green dot, relaying the defensive call from the sideline to the huddle. Dallas also elevated linebackers Curtis Robinson and Justin Barron from the practice squad for depth.

Overshown and Hooker were both still in the rehab group Monday, eight days after they got hurt at MetLife Stadium. Hooker is continuing his rehab, Schottenheimer said, and the depth chart released this week kept both players listed.

“Got to get through the week,” Schottenheimer said. “It could be tough just because it’s a shorter week for us, but I’m not saying no.”

Barham suffered a stinger against Washington, and Dee Winters hurt his shoulder early in the second quarter. Both returned to the game. Winters led Dallas with 9 tackles and recovered the fumble Barham forced on his first play back. Schottenheimer said Monday that both should be fine and that he does not expect to manage either one this week.

The Cowboys practice Thursday in Frisco and fly to Rio de Janeiro that night. Kickoff at Maracanã Stadium is 3:25 p.m. CT Sunday on CBS, with Dallas as the designated home team. Both teams are 1-1. Baltimore beat the Indianapolis Colts 41-23 in Week 1 and lost 24-17 to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
