The Boston Celtics are willing to trade Jaylen Brown to get Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, according to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports.
Boston is open to trading anyone not named Jayson Tatum to acquire Antetokounmpo.
“I am here to add that I have heard Boston is shopping people around a lot right now, that Boston is making calls,” O’Connor said. “Boston is open to trading anybody besides Jayson Tatum and that doesn’t necessarily mean they land Giannis at the end of the day.
“But I do believe, based off of everything and all the conversations I’ve had is that the Celtics are in on Giannis and that they are making a push on him and that this seems to be currently a two-team race with Milwaukee to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo.”
The Celtics and Miami Heat are considering the two likely landing spots for Antetokounmpo. The Bucks are expected to trade Antetokounmpo before the 2026 NBA Draft, which starts on June 23.
Antetokounmpo will make $58.5 million next season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
Meanwhile, Brown will make $57.1 million next season. He is under contract through the 2028-29 season.
Antetokounmpo guided the Bucks to the 2021 championship in six games against the Phoenix Suns. At that moment, it felt like Antetokounmpo would retire as a Buck.
However, Milwaukee has won just one playoff series since then and missed the playoffs this year for the first time since 2016. Antetokounmpo was almost traded at this year’s trade deadline. His relationship with the front office isn’t strong anymore.
Multiple sources have told Dallas Hoops Journal that Antetokounmpo wants to play for an East Coast team because the East Coast is close to Greece. Antetokounmpo’s wife and children don’t live with him in America during the NBA season. They reside in Greece.
Boston, of course, is on the East Coast. So is Miami.
Brown and Antetokounmpo don’t have no-trade clauses. Both guys have been on one team since entering the NBA, but Antetokounmpo’s time in Milwaukee is probably done and it appears Boston is open to parting with Brown for the right star.
