RIO DE JANEIRO — Zay Flowers will go through a pregame workout at Maracanã Stadium to determine whether his hamstring allows him to play for the Baltimore Ravens against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
One source described Flowers’ status to Schefter as a “true pre-game decision.” Baltimore does not sound as if it is counting on the 26-year-old wide receiver playing, according to Schefter’s report Sunday morning.
Flowers is officially listed as questionable. He did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, then returned Friday as a limited participant when the Ravens worked out at Botafogo’s training facility in Rio de Janeiro. A week earlier, he was also limited on Friday and still sat out Baltimore’s 24-17 home loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Zay Flowers Had 150 Yards Before Leaving Week 1
The injury came in the second quarter of the Sept. 13 opener at Indianapolis, a 41-23 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Flowers had 5 catches, 150 yards, and 1 touchdown when he left. The 150 yards were a career high, and all of them came in the first half.
His first catch went for 49 yards on Baltimore’s first offensive play and set up an opening-drive touchdown. Later in the second quarter, Flowers turned a short crossing route into a 54-yard touchdown. He was tackled after a 12-yard gain on his fifth catch and grabbed the back of his left hamstring on the turf.
Flowers also missed time with a hamstring injury during training camp. He entered the opener without an injury designation.
On Aug. 4, the Ravens signed him to a four-year, $140 million extension that includes $108 million guaranteed. The 22nd overall pick in the 2023 draft, Flowers is a two-time Pro Bowler. He caught 86 passes for 1,211 yards and 5 touchdowns in 2025 and led Baltimore in receptions and receiving yards in each of his first three seasons.
Jesse Minter Said Health Comes First For Zay Flowers
Ravens coach Jesse Minter said Monday that Baltimore would have a good shot with a lot of its injured players this week. The playing surface in Rio had drawn complaints from professional soccer players the week before, and NFL field director Nick Pappas said Monday the league had no concerns about the Maracanã grass.
“I think you have to take everything into account, most importantly what is best for [Flowers],” Minter said. “We will figure all these out. I think we have a lot of guys in that day-to-day range right now.”
Later in the week, Minter included Flowers among the players who “have a real opportunity to maybe help us in the game” against Dallas.
Without Flowers against New Orleans, Rashod Bateman caught 7 passes for 88 yards and 1 touchdown. Baltimore has already ruled out left tackle Ronnie Stanley with a toe injury after he did not practice all week.
Both teams enter at 1-1. Dallas lost its opener 28-20 to the New York Giants and beat the Washington Commanders 37-20 last Sunday.
Inactive lists are due at 1:55 p.m. CT, 90 minutes before kickoff. Dallas is the designated home team for the 3:25 p.m. CT kickoff on CBS, the first NFL regular-season game in Rio de Janeiro.
