FRISCO, Texas — Von Miller said Thursday that the Dallas Cowboys’ 28-20 loss to the New York Giants came down to the last drive for the defense, when a stop would have gotten the offense the ball back.
Dallas forced four fumbles at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 13 and recovered one. Defensive tackle Quinnen Williams punched that one loose late in the first half. New York ran for 165 yards.
Miller said the Cowboys have a good team.
“For me, at year 16, my emotions are always lit with gratitude and appreciation,” Miller said. “To be out there playing Sunday Night Football at 37 years old, those are the emotions that kind of leave for me. Obviously, you want to win the game. But despite everything that happened in that game, it really came down to that last drive defensively.”
“If we’re able to get our offense back the ball, get a stop, the complexion of it looks a whole lot different,” Miller continued. “That’s what I said after the game. That’s how I felt, and that’s how I feel now. And we got a good team. We was able to knock the ball out four times, ball didn’t bounce our way. And you just gotta keep going.”
Von Miller On Being A Hall of Fame Teammate
Miller told reporters in Oxnard that he wants to be a Hall of Fame teammate. Being a calming voice is part of that.
“Yeah, just be that calming voice,” Miller explained. “I’ve been in situations like that before. In Denver 2021, we won three games straight, and then we lost four games straight after that. So I would rather get a tough loss like that first game of the season and improve and have a better game going into Week 2.”
Denver traded Miller to the Los Angeles Rams in November 2021. He won Super Bowl LVI with the Rams that season.
Von Miller On Tuning Out The Noise At 37
Miller entered the season with 138.5 career sacks, the most among active players. He had 9 for Washington last season.
Repetition and experience are still how Miller learns at 37.
“You just stay true,” Miller said. “You can’t really learn without repetition and experience. That was just one game. Whether you had success or failure, you just keep building on it. And, yeah, it was just one game. You’re just taking one game at a time and look back at the end of the season and see where you are.”
The Washington Commanders visit AT&T Stadium on Sunday for the Cowboys’ home opener. Kickoff is set for 3:25 p.m. CT on Fox.
