FRISCO, Texas — Von Miller said Thursday he knows the type of fire the Washington Commanders will bring to AT&T Stadium on Sunday, one season after he played for them.
Miller had 9 sacks for Washington in 2025, the team lead, while starting 3 of 17 games. The Dallas Cowboys announced his signing Aug. 16. It is a one-year, $5.5 million deal that can reach $7.5 million, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported.
Miller still has bonds with Washington’s coaches and athletic trainers.
“First time wearing this helmet out,” Miller said. “I got a unique perspective. I was able to play on the Commanders’ side. I was able to play on the Cowboys’ side this year. It’s super cool. I learned from those guys, and I enjoyed my time with them. Wasn’t there long enough to really have those emotional ties, to be crying before the game and all emotional before the game.”
“But I did create a lot of amazing bonds over there with the teammates and my coaches and athletic trainers,” Miller continued. “Dan Quinn was amazing. Adam Peters was amazing. I love those guys.”
“At the same time, I know what they’re about, and I know that they’re coming in this week,” Miller added. “I know the type of fire that they have. I know what type of team they have and the type of team that they’ve been trying to build and try to drive to be. I know what type of game it’s going to be, and we just got to be prepared and ready for whatever game that’s presented.”
Von Miller On Playing For His Hometown Team
Miller grew up in DeSoto and played at Texas A&M. Denver took him second overall in 2011, and he was the Super Bowl 50 MVP.
He has been a Cowboys fan his whole life.
“Yeah, like I said, it’s cool,” Miller explained. “I got a unique perspective to be on the Commanders’ side and now on the Cowboys’ side, being a Cowboys fan my whole entire life. It’s super cool. And no matter if we win or have success or failure, my emotions, I always live with appreciation and gratitude to be playing at 37 years old.”
Miller entered the season with 138.5 career sacks, the most among active players.
Washington Commanders Visit AT&T Stadium Sunday
Dan Quinn is in his third season as Washington’s coach, with Adam Peters as general manager. The Commanders went 5-12 last season and opened this one with a 24-22 loss at Philadelphia.
Dallas swept the 2025 series, winning 44-22 in Arlington and 30-23 at Northwest Stadium on Christmas. Kickoff Sunday is set for 3:25 p.m. CT on Fox.
