DETROIT — Trevon Diggs worked out for the Detroit Lions on Sunday, according to the NFL’s daily personnel notice. The former Dallas Cowboys cornerback was one of eight players Detroit brought in at its Allen Park facility and the only defensive back in the group, which otherwise consisted of two quarterbacks, two wide receivers, and three linebackers.

Jeremy Reisman of Pride of Detroit posted the full tryout list Sunday. Detroit did not sign Diggs.

Diggs has been a free agent since the Green Bay Packers released him on Jan. 20. He turns 28 on Sept. 20.

Dallas waived Diggs on Dec. 30, and Green Bay claimed him off waivers the following day. He appeared in two games for the Packers and logged 34 total snaps. Diggs started the regular-season finale at the Minnesota Vikings, played 33 snaps, and recorded 2 tackles. He played 1 defensive snap in Green Bay’s wild-card loss at the Chicago Bears.

Why The Dallas Cowboys Waived Trevon Diggs

Dallas placed Diggs on the physically unable to perform list on July 21, 2025, and activated him on Aug. 24. He went on injured reserve on Oct. 25 and moved to the injured reserve/designated to return list on Nov. 30. The Cowboys activated him on Dec. 20 and waived him 10 days later.

Diggs appeared in eight games for Dallas in 2025 and missed two months with knee soreness and swelling and a concussion he suffered at his home, according to The Dallas Morning News. The paper reported that Diggs was a repeat offender on rules violations covering meetings and rehab work during the season.

The contract followed him to Green Bay. Diggs signed a five-year, $97 million extension with Dallas in 2023 that included a $21.25 million signing bonus, and no guaranteed money remained on it when the Packers claimed him. His base salary for 2026 would have been $14.5 million had Green Bay kept him, ESPN reported. The Packers paid him a little more than $500,000.

Trevon Diggs’ Career Numbers

Dallas drafted Diggs in the second round out of Alabama with the 51st overall pick in 2020. He started as a rookie and led the NFL with 11 interceptions in 2021, returning 2 of them for touchdowns. Diggs was named first-team All-Pro and made the Pro Bowl that season.

In 2022, Diggs recorded 3 interceptions, 14 passes defended, and 1 fumble recovery, and he made the Pro Bowl for a second straight year. He played 2 games in 2023 before tearing the ACL in his left knee during an early-season practice. Diggs returned for 11 games in 2024, and surgery on the same knee ended that season.

Across nine regular-season games with Dallas and Green Bay in 2025, Diggs had 27 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. He did not record an interception or a pass defended. Diggs has 20 career interceptions.

Where The Dallas Cowboys Stand At Cornerback

Dallas carried six cornerbacks into training camp. DaRon Bland went on injured reserve on Dec. 20, had surgery on his left foot in January, and came off the list on Feb. 15. He was a full participant in the first practice of camp on July 29.

Bland said he has no physical limitations coming out of the rehab.

“I feel pretty good, real good actually,” Bland said, per DallasCowboys.com. “I feel, right now, way better than I was the first time I had the surgery. So it feels really good right now to be back.”

Bland led the NFL with 9 interceptions in 2023 and returned 5 of them for touchdowns, an NFL single-season record. He signed a four-year, $92 million extension with $50 million guaranteed in August 2025. With Diggs gone, Bland is tied for the most experienced cornerback on the Dallas roster.

Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker is running the unit for the first time. Dallas allowed a league-worst 30 points per game in 2025 and has missed the playoffs in each of the past two seasons.

The Cowboys took a recovery day Monday. Dallas holds a joint practice against the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday at Rams Village in Woodland Hills, California, then returns to Oxnard for a practice Aug. 13. The Cowboys open the preseason Aug. 15 at the Seattle Seahawks, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. CT at Lumen Field on NFL Network.
