NEW YORK — Ashlyn Krueger and Robin Montgomery led the U.S. Open women’s doubles final by a set on Friday afternoon. They won two games after that.
Taylor Townsend and Kateřina Siniaková took the title 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The match ran 1 hour, 53 minutes, according to the WTA. Krueger and Montgomery were in the draw on a wild card, and The Associated Press listed them at 570th and 610th in the doubles rankings.
Krueger, 22, lives in Dallas and came up through USTA Texas junior tennis before turning professional. She was born in Springfield, Missouri, on May 7, 2004. Montgomery is from Washington, D.C., and the two have been playing doubles together since their junior years.
They won the U.S. Open girls’ doubles title in 2021 over Reese Brantmeier and Elvina Kalieva, 5-7, 6-3, 10-4. They took an ITF title in Arcadia, California, in 2022 when Harriet Dart and Giuliana Olmos withdrew before the final, and another at the USTA Pro Circuit event in Orlando in 2023 over Arianne Hartono and Eva Vedder, 7-5, 6-1.
Ashlyn Krueger And Robin Montgomery Went Through Both Defending Champions
Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe won the 2025 title and did not enter together this year. Routliffe played with Aldila Sutjiadi and lost to Krueger and Montgomery in the quarterfinals. Dabrowski played with Luisa Stefani and lost to them in the semifinals.
Montgomery said afterward that she and Krueger were still taking in the two weeks.
“I think we did forget that we were offered a wild card,” Montgomery said.
Krueger’s singles tournament ended on Aug. 31. No. 10 Amanda Anisimova beat her 6-1, 6-3 in the first round in 72 minutes on Louis Armstrong Stadium. Krueger reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 29 on July 14, 2025, and was No. 60 as of Aug. 31 this year. She has one WTA singles title, at Osaka in 2023, and one WTA doubles title, at Charleston in 2024 with Sloane Stephens. She was the runner-up at Abu Dhabi in 2025 and won the WTA 125 event at Ilkley this year.
Taylor Townsend And Kateřina Siniaková Complete the Career Grand Slam
Townsend won her fourth major on Friday, after Wimbledon in 2024, the Australian Open in 2025, and the French Open earlier this year, all alongside Siniaková. The pair lost last year’s U.S. Open final to Routliffe and Dabrowski.
“If flipping the script had a face,” Townsend said, “you’d see my face.”
Siniaková called the first set tight and tough on her team. “We found a solution,” Siniaková said.
It was Siniaková’s 12th major doubles title. She won seven with Barbora Krejčíková and one with Coco Gauff. Friday also made her a two-time career Grand Slam winner in the discipline, having already swept the four majors with Krejčíková.
Townsend lost in singles a week earlier. Aryna Sabalenka beat her 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth round.
Sabalenka plays Elena Rybakina in the women’s singles final. That match starts at 3 p.m. CT Saturday.
